Thank goodness people were nice back then. They took IOU's and he sent them money, some people were just nice and didn't want anything. He still talks about a beautiful indian girl he saw somewhere out west.

The only problem I had was on my last trip. I had the Harley shipped from Hawaii to San Francisco. Instead of being in a shipping container it was loaded as deck cargo – open to the elements. I checked it out and, except for a broken clutch lever it seemed OK. As I was crossing the Great Salt Lake flats, the front wheel bearing went out. Seawater had washed out much of the grease. I limped into Salt Lake City to the Harley shop. The immediately took the bike in and ordered me to wait at the bar next door. When they had replaced and repacked the bearings the owner came for me – paid my bar tab, put me up for the night and refused any payment.

It's good to know there are still decent people out there.
