You know, I think if the President had the guts, he could invoke national security statutes and override these Kanagaroo courts to stop this cruel execution. The rationale for that action would be the following: this horrific starvation of an innocent person will seriously undermine our efforts to promote democracy and human rights throughout the world (and it will.) That in turn harms our national security by slowing the growth of democracy and leaving more dictators and tyrants in place. There really is a justification here. I'm concerned that all kinds of 2-bit dictators and terrorists are going to use this case against us in the future and claim that we're hypocrites when we try to promote human rights. If the President had the guts, he's call this an exceptional case and override all this bulls### in the courts and get her out of there. I think his staff is too slow to figure this out.
