Do you have any convictions at all on these issues, or do you support Republicans no matter what they do or don't do? I'm not trying to blow you off or to offend you. I just wonder if you have any ability to empathize with pro-life people who have been given lipservice by conservative politicians for over 30 years and have little to show for their support.

Says a LOT for how much the Republican Party ought to trust ANY of these hard-right groups.

Or, in otherwords, it's not so much the merit of their case...but a legalistic pissing match with grown men wearing robes in a huff.

Quite frankly, given the way some of these protestors are now acting... I honestly couldn't BLAME the GOP if they decided to smack folks like Randall Terry and Alan Keys down a little.

The Schindler's attorneys have some serious responsibility for the fact that Terri is going to die.

So, I guess in the end, it's the hysterical pro-lifers and the Schindlers who are the real villians in this whole melodrama.

Where, oh where, were all these brilliant legal/constitutional scholars when the Schindlers needed them? Their lawyers worked for years pro bono when the big name, fundraising, cause lawyers were nowhere to be seen. Now is not the time to criticize. Let them go raise $$$$ on someone else's corpse.

That's about right. The real issues really don't seem to matter.

These groups have just taken out a HUGE loan of goodwill. They will need to replace it in terms of votes. Feinstein had better go down in flames in 2006.

The noises they are making indicate that they have no intention of repayment.

As a pro-life/values-conservative Republican who's getting a wee bit tired of lipservice, I'm feeling a bit betrayed at the moment. Go ahead and smack me down. See what good it does.

With Terri's hundreds-K$$$ in malpractice award money, the deatheater was able to "out-fox" the Schindlers and getting their daughter to the guillotine!!!

I Repeat there has to be periodic reports regarding the assets? (/sarcasm)
"A guardian is required to submit periodic reports regarding the condition of the ward and/or the ward's assets. The Clerk's Office is responsible for the initial review of these reports. After the reports are audited by the clerk, they are taken to the general master for review, then to the presiding judge. If it appears that the guardian is not performing his or her duties properly, the court will take the necessary steps to protect the ward and/or the ward?s assets." From : Florida Guardianship Questions

It did not go to her rehab..the father is said to have paid for the roof over their heads for some time, see my earlier post #62. In a recent interview with Larry King, Schivo stated, "There is no money" (Transcript). Where did the money go? To HIS best interest in winning? The best attornies money can buy?

Thank you. I'm not about to abandon Pres. Bush or the Republican Party (my record of arguing for pragmatism on FR for the past seven years stands for itself), but I appreciate the fact that someone at least understands the frustration some of us are feeling, and aren't inclined to simply tell us to "get back in line!"

I find allot of people here to be scary folks. They like to label themselves "conservatives" however they are emotionally driven just like liberals. Facts and reason don't matter to them. They parade around like pious folks hinting or down right stating they want to kill Greer and anyone else they don't agree with...

No one here is even suggesting this "killer statement" above you so lodged into your comment. If so you should have reported them.

George W. Bush and Jeb put the GOP's BUTT on the line. If a knife goes in their back from Keyes and Terry, especially if it is justifed by a so-called "betrayal", DO YOU HONESTLY THINK A REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE WILL EVER TRUST "PRO-LIFE/VALUES-CONSERVATIVES" AGAIN?

I think the answer will be NO. If you can make a convincing case otherwise, I'd like to hear it.

From what I've read that the wording in S.686

'In such a suit, the District Court shall determine de novo any claim of a violation of any right of Theresa Marie Schiavo within the scope of this Act, notwithstanding any prior State court determination and regardless of whether such a claim has previously been raised, considered, or decided in State court proceedings. ….

Didn't specifically state a requirement for a De Novo Review vs. De Novo Trial. And, Judge Whittman used his discretion (against the intent of congress) to hold a De Novo Review?

Is this more-or less correct?

Fine. Offend us. Tell us we were never loved in the first place. At least you're admitting we were being *used.* Kick us out of the party. And then see how many elections the Republicans win when the party is back to 30% of voters, nationwide.

I'm reacting not simply to this Terri Schiavo case, but 30 years of frustration and lipservice about how the Republican Party is going to fix the courts. Tell me when that will happen -- tell me when the Senate is going to go nuclear on the Dems filibuster -- because I'm tired of the lipservice, and of being stabbed in the back when the going gets tough.

I don't think the Schindler's attorneys did a good job. In fact, I think they did an awful job. Don't read more into my comments than that.

You got more than lipservice, buddy. You got the governor of Florida, Congress, and the President catering to your will, right up to the limits of their authority. You got the nuclear option killed off just to have half a chance of saving Terri Schiavo. You've gotten Social Security reform derailed just to have half a chance of saving Terri Schiavo. And then your ace legal team deliberately threw the case because winning it didn't serve the interests of Randall Terry et al.

Thanks a lot. Y'all took out a huge loan of goodwill. If you want to get anything other than ignored, you and your buddies had better deliver some astonishing victories in 2006 and 2008. We'd better have a cloture-proof Senate after 2006 if you want anything more than a "drop dead" from the rest of the party.

Instead, I hear folks talking about torpedoing Rick Santorum in 2006, because (I guess) they think Casey's going to be more conservative.

Go ahead and do it. I double-dog dare you. Go ahead and toss out Santorum. Go ahead and re-elect Feinstein. Let's see how you get treated after pulling stunts like that.
