Hi ExPatInFrance. In essence, agents from the DCF (per Jeb's instructions) were on the way to the hospice when they got word of the fact that Greer and put a restraining order on them and that the law enforcement at the hospice was prepared to prevent them from taking Terri. So they turned around.

Many here are faulting Jeb for that. Personally, I think we're wasting our energy being angry at Jeb who obviously wants Terri to live, but who is unwilling to go outside of the law to do something about it. I respect his stand. I don't now if that's the choice *I* would make, but he has to live with his own conscience and what he feels the Lord is prompting or not prompting him to do.

I have to disagree with you and am one of the many here who feel Jeb has NOT done enough within the law or outside it. He knew at the very least 15 months ago with the inactment of Terri's Law that this day was coming and coming soon. He knew the new law wouldn't stand up because it was a rush job, however he failed to come up with anything else since that time. He knew it wa a matter of time, but waited again to the last moment this time too. This last minute emergency sessions just don't cut it. He knows it and we know he knows it, so what's he trying to do or not do?

Thanks much for the nice short summary of what happened with DCF.

I think Jeb is between a rock and a hard place. Everyone here and everywhere is verbally beating up on him real bad. Personally I don't think I can judge him, nor GWB. I know that W came back from vacation early and signed the Federal Bill in the middle of the night, supporting Terri's Right to Life. I will reserve my angst for all the Judges, I have a hard time condeming people who have tried to help. It looks so easy to us, but we are not privy to all the legal details.

If really there was a way for either Bush to help more I have to think that GibbsIII would have been waving those options all over the press by now. I think they are constrained. I am not going to "eat my young" on FR.
