Parents keep watch over dying Schiavo (MICHAEL DENIES TERRI FINAL COMMUNION)
Nevada Appeal / Associated Press ^ | March 27, 2005 | Mitch Stacy

Posted on 03/26/2005 10:56:04 PM PST by Deo volente

(Attorney)Weller said Terri cried when her mother hugged her Saturday night. "She knows what's going on. She was trying to vocalize something with Mary."

"The governor should know that Terri still knows who her mother is, and she's extremely distressed," Weller said. "She's not a vegetable who doesn't know what is happening."

Paul O'Donnell, a Roman Catholic Franciscan monk, said the family unsuccessfully urged Michael Schiavo to allow his wife the sacrament of communion during the holiest feast of the Catholic year. She received last rites the day the feeding tube was pulled.

"This is in violation of her religious rights and freedoms and allows the governor to ... intervene," O'Donnell said, repeating the family's request that the governor take Schiavo into protective custody. "We beg you to have courage and take action."

The parents really should have done all they could to get video footage of this. Had they done that, they would have surely moved public opinion.

I have a somewhat odd question.
I keep seeing Michael referred to as a "Sicilian".
I've never heard of any Italian names that begin with "Sch", only German ones.
What makes everyone believe he's Sicilian?
[and I'm married to a Sicilian who grew up in a nice "family" neighborhood in Federal Hill/Providence RI and he's never heard of an Italian with "Sch" at the beginning of their name, either]

This odd little detail keeps nagging at me.
Anybody got any insight?

"We beg you to have courage and take action."

There appears to be no governor of the state of Florida. That office has been declared in contempt of the courts.

A Blessed Easter to a fellow traditional Catholic.

I'm too exhausted to post anymore.

Good night.

I agree. There is something so malevolent about him. Maybe he'll have insulted some higher power so much that he'll end up like Ted Williams' son ended up in the months following this atrocity.

My mom, a native Italian, says Schiavo (skee.a.vo) means "slave" in Italian. We don't know where he is from, but she is horrified he is Italian.

He doesn't look like any Sicilian I've ever seen-- he looks like an Aryan agent of death.

Thank you for the quick and detailed response....:)
Tell your dear mother that my husband is just as horrified by the genetic connection.

[actually he's cursing the mongrel to all manner of everlasting torment]...:))

Oh geez. Give it a rest will ya?

Why? It's absolutely true. Anyone involved in denying Terri food hates the God who created her.

found this after a short google search:

In Italian, "schiavo" means slave.

It's the derivation of the word "ciao" -- that many-times-a-conversation greeting, ciao, means "I am your slave."

Okay... so where are all the members of the "Michael Schiavo couldn't have been as bad as everyone says" club now?

As the article states, Terri's husband already had last rites performed for her. A subsequent communion hardly seems appropriate.

But, that's not the people he's speaking of. He's speaking of people who disagree with his opinion of Jeb Bush.

Try to keep up.

Depending on what race conquered what part of Italy in the dim and distant past, there are lots of blonde/blue-eyed [and red-haired] Italians, same as with Spaniards but Michael doesn't 'look Italian' to me either.

[maybe he takes after his mom, "Ilsa"]....LOL!
