If there was a living will, all of this media attention would not be here. There wasn't, so the next best thing was the statements of the next of kin, Michael. Terri's family opposed his will, so they went to court. The Schindlers had two people testify about Terri's wishes at the age of 11-12, while the Schiavos had three people testify about Terri's wishes as an adult.
Michael Schiavo stood to gain his wife's lawsuit money when she died, if he was her guardian. The Schindlers stood to gain that money if they were her guardians after they convinced Michael to "move on" and marry someone else and let Terri die while they were her guardians. Sounds like money-grubbing vultures to me.
In the same situation as Michael, I would do the same thing. The whole issue is about the patient's final end of life desire. Terri said she didn't want to be kept alive by artificial means, the way she is now. There's no question that she would want to die by removal of life support. The ending is good because it honors her wishes.
well thank you for identifying yourself...buh bye now!
How much plutonium do you get exposed to?
Oh, and who are the three witnesses that say Terri said that? Are their last names all Schaivo?
Babe, get a clue. 3 Schiavos testified. They were talking about a ventilator not a feeding tube. It was a casual remark that most people make. There is reasonable doubt.
How dare you call her parents money grubbing vultures. What do you really know about them or Terri's situation?
It sounds like you've learned everything you know from watching Larry King.
Sorry, you didn't win. But thanks for playing!
Tarantulas and the rest of the posters that would prefer death by man than to die natural, we are not trying to take this "right" away from you. Trust me when I say , I personally can't think of a better group of people that should have their wishes granted. Go have your living wills done and I'm sure your love ones will appreciate not having a guilty conscience when they feel their inheritance is more important than carrying for you. Please for all of us, GET THE LIVING WILL DONE. In fact, why not just end it now. I mean we are all going to die sometime so why not now? Why wait till some misfortune may hit? Why put yourself thru any discomfort? Go ahead, starve yourself now, I can promise society will be better for it. Please if your living will has not been done, do it today. God forbid if anyone should make you live one more day than you should be allowed. PLEASE DO IT NOW, I BEG YOU!!!!
Words fail me...
The whole issue is about the patient's final end of life desire.
No it isn't. It's much bigger than that. It encompasses such wide-ranging subjects as an out-of-control judiciary, euthanasia and the right-to-die movement and where we are headed as a Nation. It also might involve premeditated murder.
Terri said she didn't want to be kept alive by artificial means, the way she is now. There's no question that she would want to die by removal of life support.
There is ample doubt these were her wishes. I would hate to be put to death based on my supposed comments at age 20 when seeing a movie. In any case, she left no instructions and the opinions of close family members and friends conflict on this point. The only ones who agree are her husband and a few of his close relatives. Besides, her husband probably has personal and financial interests for getting rid of her. Maybe criminal ones.
The ending is good because it honors her wishes.
Tell that to her mother and family. It is even possible at the last minute she was desperately resisting, according to one of her lawyers and her family who were present.
I note on your personal page you make a few comments. Let me ask a few question, based on your given information...
Marital status: Married since 1973, 4 cats, no kids.
Would you starve any of your cats to death, even if they were old and sick? (You have no kids, so you cannot be expected to think like a parent, watching your child being slowly and judicially murdered...)
Motto: "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing."
I like your motto, but you need to consider if there is some genuine evil afoot here, as well as larger issues. There is much more involved here than a disabled woman's alleged "wishes". The "kill Terri" side would like everyone to think the issue is narrow and only has to do with her "wishes". You have apparently bought their line.
"Terri said she didn't want to be kept alive by artificial means, the way she is now. "
This is a feeding tube, not a life-support respirator.
"There's no question that she would want to die by removal of life support. "
"Feeding" is not 'life support'.
