I've been thinking about this also, especially as it relates to President and Governor Bush. I'm very disappointed they haven't taken Terri into custody, but I think we really need to be careful about burning up a lot of energy in anger toward them when that energy should be going into prayer and into bringing the truly bad guys to justice.
Both Bushes have made it very evident which side they're on and that they're distressed about what is happening to Terri. Both have gone to extra lengths to save Terri. We feel they could both do more, but who am I to stand and judge?
The Lord keeps reminding me of an incident a number of years ago in which some family members and I were in a crises with a person who was very mentally disturbed. We called a couple we knew to come and help us out. They said they would, but then called back and said that they felt a restraint from the Lord that they weren't supposed to come. I was angry, because I felt we really needed help.
But later it came out that there was a connection between this person and this couple that would have been explosive should they have come, and they were right to have followed the Lord's restraint in coming.
I've since then been very hesitant to judge why another person doesn't do what I think they should. In the end, it is between them and the Lord. I don't know Jeb Bush as well as President Bush, but everything I've seen so far in Pres Bush tells me that he does what he believes is right no matter the opposition. I have to believe that is true in this case as well. And if he has made a mistake in not acting, haven't we all made mistakes, terrible ones at times? He's overall a good man, and I think he still deserves our support and prayers.
Let's put our energy into praying for President and Governor Bush. This must be a terrible weight on their shoulders as it is on ours. Let's pray for clarity of mind for them in knowing without a doubt whether they should act or not.
We also need to remember that our leaders, presidents and governors alike have special mantles of authority from God to do what he want them to if they listen to him. What we want may not be the way God is pulling them, even though from our POV it ought to be.
We have to pray for God's will to be done, even if it's not what we think God's will is, or what we want God's will to be.
What I am praying is:
Our Father in Heaven, I commit the hands of the leaders here, especially Jeb and George Bush into your hands. Open their hearts and minds to your will, and may they do what you ask them to. Not my will counts, o Lord, but thine. Have mercy on the dying, and those who watch and wait, especially on the Schindlers and Terrim and lead us always, ever closer to you. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
