Jeb Bush can save Terri

Terri Schindler-Schiavo is a brain-damaged woman being denied her right to life. She does not deserve a painful execution we wouldn't even subject our dogs or criminals to. If Florida's Gov. Jeb Bush will exercise the authority available to him now – and required of him – to save Terri, he will ensure a victorious run for the White House in 2008.

Section 2 of the constitution of the state of Florida states:

All natural persons, female and male alike, are equal before the law and have inalienable rights, among which are the right to enjoy and defend life and liberty ... No person shall be deprived of any right because of ... physical disability.

Jeb Bush has all the authority he needs right now to remove Terri from those who would kill her and save her life. Indeed, his oath of office requires it:

I, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, protect and defend the Constitution and government of the United States and of the state of Florida ...

What part of these words do Jeb Bush and the black-robed high priests with pretensions of godhood not understand? This issue could not be more clear.

Terri Schiavo is being killed because she is inconvenient. If Terri is allowed to live, every disabled person among Florida's substantial retirement community will be protected against having their lives – and their Florida Medicare payments – terminated by highly compromised politicians. Additionally, Terri was injured under suspicious circumstances that have not been properly investigated. If her adulterous husband has his way, we'll very likely never find out the truth.

If Terri dies, America dies with her. Nobody in this nation will ever be safe again because anyone who is inconvenient – who might cost the state too much money, who is a "burden" on others, who is genetically undesirable, who is (fill in the blank) – will be subject to the whims of judicial arrogance.

When Roe v. Wade became law many years ago, pro-life activists warned about situations like Terri Schiavo's. They were ridiculed as extremists. What Terri Schiavo's death will lead to could eventually make Hitler's Nazi Germany look like Disneyland by comparison. God have mercy on America if this evil is allowed to stand.

If Gov. Bush will confront this evil by sending in the state police or national guard to protect Terri, he will be remembered for his courage and integrity. Moreover, his commitment to his oath of office and to protecting the citizens under his care will likely ensure him a successful run for the White House in 2008. The publicity value of his actions alone will guarantee that his name will become a household word in America as the dwindling pro-death crowd hiss about him and those who value life praise him.

If, on the other hand, Jeb Bush fails to protect Terri, her blood is on his hands and America will not forget his moral cowardice.
