Excellent article.

I was remembering back in the "old" days when the media, especially the television news, would pick up a story like this and go hog-wild showing as much visual evidence as possible to create empathy for the situation. Where have they gone? It is beyond contempt that the media has refused to air the video footage of Terri showing her to be alert and responsive. They desperately want to perpetuate the lie that Terri is brain-dead or comatose.

I grieve for our nation.

Seems to me that the feminist cabal should be up in arms against the man trying to kill his "ex" wife.

I thought a male and female cohabitation for 7 years is considered marriage by common law...? Michael Schiavo is ...in my opinion... a bigamist.

I've watched - unbelieving - as this takes on an enormous right vs left element. How? Why?
My conclusion is that the left sees this as important to the right and therefore opposes it. As always, principle is irrelevant. Tweak the nose. Score a point. That's what counts.

,so do the 21 Florida State Senators that voted to murder Theresa on our holy week....

They will burn in HELL forever, and ever, and as for Nation
, it's the beginning of the end. Sad day in our nation history. Sad day for this planet. The forces of good is losing and the forces of pure evil is winning. GOD will soon step in. Prepare yourselfs and family when judgement comes. that's all :(

They are all waiting for that murderous child molester to get the death penalty. Then they, along with the fellow traveler ACLU, will cry that the death penalty is cruel and inhuman punishment.

I don't know. Tom Harkin is pretty much to the left and he is supporting this.

Note this article in defendingtruth.org

http://www.defendingtruth.org/content.asp?content_id=122

"In an effort to justify the murder of a mentally disabled person ABC Health describes the starving death of Terri Schiavo as a process that is “very serene”. The article, written to assure readers that death by starvation is humane, ignores the reality of starvation pain for a conscious person such as Terri. The described serenity contradicts reality and medical knowledge. Neurologist William Burke described death by dehydration in Wesley J. Smith’s book, Forced Exit:

“A conscious person would feel it [dehydration] just as you or I would. They will go into seizures. Their skin cracks, their tongue cracks, their lips crack. They may have nosebleeds because of the drying of the mucous membranes, and heaving and vomiting might ensue because of the drying out of the stomach lining. They feel the pangs of hunger and thirst. Imagine going one day without a glass of water! Death by dehydration takes ten to fourteen days. It is an extremely agonizing death.”

The pain and agony of death by starvation is obvious to many doctors and observers but for Kate Adamson, she got to experience it first hand. Kate was 33 when she had an incapacitating stroke that left her in a persistent vegetative state. She was much less responsive the Terri is today and had to be fed through a tube inserted into her stomach. When she developed a bowel obstruction her feeding tube was removed for 8-days so that it could be operated on. Kate recovered through rehabilitation the ability to talk and interact and offered her view of the 8-days without food or water:

“When the feeding tube was turned off for eight days, I thought I was going insane. I was screaming out in my mind, "Don't you know I need to eat?" And even up until that point, I had been having a bagful of Ensure as my nourishment that was going through the feeding tube. At that point, it sounded pretty good. I just wanted something. The fact that I had nothing, the hunger pains overrode every thought I had.“

Many liberal organizations are hailing starvation as the humane and appropriate method of death for Terri Schiavo against evidence to the contrary. Their view of the mercy in this type of killing is pure political expediency. Would they support the killing of death row inmates by starvation? Should we exercise the “humane and serene” death from starvation as a tactic of war? If it is so peaceful a way to die can’t we withhold food and water from detainees without worries of accusations of torture?

Death by starvation is not peaceful and is not humane. Terri should die of nothing but a natural death. Her executioners want us to believe it will be serene and the right thing to do but their own internal contradictions belie them for the morally bankrupt people that they are. Don’t let Terri die a painful death – go to www.helpterri.com to see what you can do."

The Left tends to avoid or vote against things that could in a real stretch "hoist them by their own petards". Ergo: somebody should immediately remove Dead Kennedy's whiskey bottle.

Yes.... but the poor children are innocent and shouldn't be considered in such a derogatory light.

The average dem pol represents the wishes of the democrat electorate, and those wishes are? That, whenever voting on the issue of life or death for the innocent, the democrats always come down on the side of death.

We all new that Satan would be allowed to work his horrors on the world in the last days. Guess this is it. As far as I'm concerned everyone of these politicians that have voted against life are in Violation of the Constitution. They again (slavery) are deciding WHO gets constitutional protection.

"I don't know. Tom Harkin is pretty much to the left and he is supporting this."

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Seriously though, my point is that I don't think this is a right-left issue. I know there are conservatives who are not behind this, particularly the feds getting involved which, I assure you troubles me greatly as well.
But, overwhelmingly, as far as I have seen and read, the pro-Terri position is being characterized as a position of the right and I am seeing a lot of knee-jerk opposition that seesm motivated by nothing other than contrarianism.
(I think I just made up a word.)
