It is routine to take away from those arrested/jailed, their possessions, whatever they are, including money, wallets, etc. They are locked away in containers, with the defendant's name. The person arrested, defendant, usually gets their possessions back...depending on what was taken, of course. If it's contraband, i.e., drugs, of course they will not get that back. I do know of certain cases where all the money was not returned. I do not know if that is legal, unless the police claim the money was from the sale of stolen property or drugs, and that were found to be true at trial or hearing.....
