You can put a million agents on the border, but until there is a real determination to enforce immigration policies, it will not make a difference. In 1986, the IR&C Act set up terms for punishing employers of illegal aliens which has gone largely unenforced after the first year or two. Illegal immigrants must be removed from the country, and legal immigration should be made easier for those who follow proper procedures. We must stop rewarding line jumpers and the companies who employ them. Additionally, the govenment should introduce legislation to go after banks that are making it easier for illegals to purchase homes here, and laws concening "anchor babies" must be modified immediately.

The real action will come when illegal aliens are barred from judicial review, held indefinitely until deportation, and deported within a week of their capture.

Then, of course, there should be a no excuse policy for felons hiring illegals and fines set to financially incapacitate them along with mandatory minimums of ten years' imprisonment.

Based on the size of the border from San Diego to the Gulf of Mexico...the job requires at least 20,000 additional border guards. And they need to be armed and as capable as the US military is today. And personally, I'd assign the job to the coast guard and tell them to modify to cover both land and sea. There is no reason why they couldn't do that...plus they are already structured as a military organization anyway. And I'd ensure they have all of the intelligence devices (sensors, blimps, radar, etc)...that would be required.
