what happened in 1984 and in 2002 was horrible no doubt abt tht.
But u need to take into consideration how diverse the country is and how many religions r flourishing in it.
Also india is a young country compared to others.

My point is that these things happen sometimes and what u can best do is prevent it from happening again.

I am an Indian and am proud of the democratic setup of my country(the only one in the region).

People should stop calling themselves Indians. My doctor calls himself a Bengali but would refuse to treat you if you call him an Indian. I don't blame him for a second. India is a wet dream of the Nehrus and Gandhis. What even the Mouryas or the Guptas or the Moghuls could not accomplish, was accomplished after the independence when everyone jumped on the band-wagon called India. There is no way that if different groups had to decide for themselves, the Marathis and the Punjabis and the Bengalis would all unite under one banner. It is true that every group trusted the Congress party to negotiate fairly with the British, but it was done to create the empire of the Gandhi family without keeping in mind the concern of different groups.
