McCain: I Haven't Ruled Out 2008

Presumed presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is playing it coy when it comes to nailing down his intentions for a 2008 run.

"I certainly haven't ruled it out," was about as far as the GOP maverick would go in an interview with the Detroit News on Monday.

McCain was in Michigan for a fund-raiser for Republican House member Pete Hoekstra and state Attorney General Mike Cox.

Asked about a line in his 2002 memoir "Worth the Fighting For" - where McCain said of his presidential ambitions, "My time may be passing" - the Arizona Republican told columnist George Weeks:

"What I was trying to say is that I want to wait two years to make a decision on that. I'd like to concentrate on trying to be a good senator for a couple of years before I would have to wrestle with that decision."

Others traveling with McCain were less conflicted.

"I'm going to urge him to run," Republican National Committeeman Chuck Yob told the News. Yob cited polls showing McCain defeating Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, John Kerry and John Edwards in prospective 2008 matchups.

For his part Hoekstra says that McCain is "in the top tier" of possible 2008 candidates, but adds, "It's too early for anybody to even think about it."

Condi is not a RINO unless the definition of RINO encompasses the entirety of our elected representatives and at least 80% of the grassroots. If so, than everyone is a RINO save the purified few.

Further, she has declared she isn't even running.

Lastly, you miss the entire point. For all the whining people have done the past week about Condi it is McCAIN that stands to split the party in half. Proving a difference in opinion isn't the sticking point for the majority here, but rather the character of the candidate. Even Rudy is currently pulling 70%. So I don't want to hear anymore that McCain is our only hope to win in '08. It isn't true.

Anyone who supports abortion is a RINO...sorry, that's my opinion and I am sticking to it.

I seriously would vote for Hillary over McCain. It is better to have a known enemy than a very unstable friend.

I would have to be TORTURED to vote for Hillary. Her first goal would to be to pack the Supreme court and ALL the courts with liberals. The thought of Hillary, Bill, and Hollywood being back in the White House makes me sick.

I'm of the mind that McCain had his turn- he didn't make it. But there's no one yet that I'm warming up to.

Bush made a campaign appearance in my area back in October, and McCain was there, traveling with him. He gave an introductory speech, hugged Bush and praised him profusely.

I will fight against McCain in the primaries...BUT
BUT, BUT,
If it is a choice between McCain and Hillary...
I WILL vote McCain...the freedom of America is more important than my feelings for McCain.

Hillary is the most dangerous person in Amerioca right now. I will not sit out the vote and enable her to take office.

Sorry, but I trust Hillary to do less damage than McCain. I believe he is truly the Manchurian Candidate.

If Hillary & Bill get elected, you will live to regret that statement.

It may be your opinion but it is false.

Being a "republican" and being a "conservative" are not one and the same. One refers to party, one refers to ideology. Sometimes the two are joined to our benefit in common goals, sometimes we diverge.

This is one reason I am not a Republican. I support them but cannot promise allegiance above all to Party, where I will define myself as a conservative.
