The growth of public schooling in the US was originally supported strongly by the protestant churches as a way of preserving protestant dominance at a time when a flood of non-Protestant immigrants was threatening the political and social dominance of the WASPs. They were badly deceived into thinking that they could rely on the state to protect their dominance.

Fast forward a hundred years, and these tax-funded "temples to the civil religion" have been seized by the worshippers of the messianic state, and the various other gods of human manufacture that have supplanted the God of the Bible.

Now the crowd that worships at the altar of its sexual passions (of whatever variety) is demanding a place for its favorite idol. Given the perverted logic of the polytheistic secular state under which we live, and its increasingly unconstrained institutions, this can hardly be surprising, however unpleasant it might be. This man-made god, the state, will have no other gods before it, though everyone's favorite household gods are quite welcome provided that they "mind their manners" and collectively bow down before it. People whose God refuses to be domesticated in this way are in for one heck of a rough ride.
