No law will ever stop one single abortion. Anyone who wants one will just go where they are available. Only by persuading young women will they not choose abortion.

No law will stop *every* abortion. But if the penalty is severe enough, a federal law outlawing abortion would prevent *many* abortions.

I personally don't think anyone knows when the soul enters the body thus becoming a sentient human being.

Ignorance is no justification for carelessness. If you don't know if something is a human being, then on the principle of safety, you shouldn't kill it. When you go hunting, you don't shoot the animal until you know that it is not a human being. If you don't know when a human being becomes present, then you should support the most cautious position, until you have good reason to believe otherwise. The most cautious position is that the one-celled human zygote is a human organism.

Do you really think you can do anything but complain or support the next GOP presidential candidate? The chosen one will arrive at in New Hampshire with all the money and support in place as per Karl Rowe just like in 2000. There is nothing you can do to change this process. Why is this not clear?

Life is full of surprises?

Comparing women who get abortions to Nazis isn't helpful.

Agreed. And I never did that.

The pro life leadership over the last 30 years has had a role in those 40 million abortions - they were ineffective in making change, and continue to be. That's a record many folks don't have the clarity to see

That's absurd. Did Jeremiah have a role in the destruction of Israel because the Jews didn't heed his call to repentance? Was Noah responsible for the destruction of the world because he didn't make his message palatable enough?

A cogent and well articulated position. The time will indeed come when the GOP will need to make a stand and deal with the consequences.

I agree that my way is paved with tears. However, taking the stand in `08 will result in your way also being paved with tears.

It's obvious that we both want the silent holocaust of abortion to come to a permanent end. However, from where I'm sitting, Hillary and her ilk may as well run on the campaign theme of "an aborted fetus in every pot".

2008 is not the time. Not with Hillary Clinton out there.

I agree except for one tiny itty bitty detail. There is "NO" need for the GOP to choose a pro choice nominee. However some seem determined to do just that, ergo my present distrust with the whole party system as it now stands. As long as so many are determined to shove this down our collective throat they need not tell me or any who believe as I do that I have to drink the koolaide. (not that I am suggesting that is what you are doing but there are plenty who fit this profile)

For the love of Pete it isn't like there is no other choice out there. The GOP is filled to the gills with good folks so why this determination to chose a person who will split the party. When it happens they can not say they were not warned. There are many voices out there that are sounding the alarm and not just here on Free Republic.

When it happens it is time to break out the tissue, but there is no point in second guessing we will know the cause.

I admire your passion and faith.

My point is simple - support the person who comes out of the primaries with the GOP nomination no matter what the view on abortion. Either we do that, or we watch Hillary pack the judiciary with liberal activists.

Hey Battlepappy!

Yeah, those were the days....

How come some of the best (worst) arguments are with people that we mostly agree with?

I raise a glass of Guinness to you sir and bid you a Happy Saint Patrick's Day.
