I've been reading this, and several other threads on the same topic yesterday and today...and something really bugs me. We seem to have a small, vocal contingent that says in essence, "Every conception MUST result in a full-term, live birth. If it doesn't then by God someone is going to jail..." and that anyone that does not subscribe that point of view is branded "pro-abortion", and that pro-choice is a synonym for baby killer. It makes me sick. Abortion as a means of post coital contraception is wrong. I am also in favor of parental notification & consent for minors. However, I am not so closed-minded to realize that there are certain medical situations where termination of a pregnancy is a reasonable option. And I think that this point of view does not alienate the squishy middle of the political spectrum, which any candidate needs to capture the majority of in order to get elected. What really scares the hell out of me is the contingent here that would rather see a "President Hillary" than support a candidate with whom they disagree on one issue. God help us.

I think you'll find the truly close-minded folks on the other side of the debate. We're just bickering among ourselves here, but the bigger picture is they have had free reign - the will of the people be d*mnd - and have managed to cheapen life to the point that it can be considered "reasonable" and even meretorious to favor the taking of innocent life in some circumstances. For all the demands for our side to "compromise", I've seen not an inch of give on the other side in the last decade. It's abortion-on-demand, for any reason the mother deems suitable, through all nine months of pregnancy. THAT... is extreme. And Americans are waking up: this issue, as documented by Democrats for Life, has kicked their a$$ in recent elections. "Pro-choice" is no longer the winner it was once thought to be, as the gruesume reality underlying the vapid "it's a woman's right to choose" assertion becomes seen by more people.

Don't be ashamed of the pro-life label, if indeed you embrace that position. It's a winning issue. And Republicans will get a candidate they like in 2008, whether it's Rice with a clearer and stronger position, or someone else.

Bickering at this point on this issue is premature.
