The Senate Higher Education Budget Division analyzed and adopted an act Thursday allowing immigrants to pay in-state tuition.

If enacted, the bill would get immigrants in-state tuition if they graduated from a Minnesota high school or attended one for more than two years.

Committee chairwoman and co-author of the bill Sen. Sandy Pappas, DFL-St. Paul, said it will help more immigrants get college educations.

Isn't it funny how immigrants, including illegal ones, wil get the benifits of reduced tuition, but the sons and daughters of our nations service men and women won't get this benifit?

So funny it makes me laugh. Americans have to give up their crush on internationalism. Americans are unique, not the same at the immmigrants.

Sen. Sandy Pappas

Or as the Gumption County Fireworks Commissioner refers to her: “The Foul Mouthed Sandy Pappas”.

Let them go back to their home countries and let those governments pay for their college education.

Excellent point - thank you elitist Bush and the RINOs for doing nothing while our country implodes with illegals.

Americans are unique, not the same at the immmigrants.

These politicians believe America an anachronism. Their only loyalty is to wealth, where ever and however it may be had.

They try to avoid making any distinction in the article, but reading between the lines it appears that legal immigrants already get in-state tuition, which I support. Illegals should not.

If the student in considered illegal because their parents brought them here...should they be held responsible for the sins of the father?
I'll concede to in state tuition for illegals once they also adopt an instate tuition for those who pay state income taxes but who live in other states. I live in NH but work in Mass....shouldn't my kids be allowed to go to the University of Massachusetts for in state tuition rate...after all my taxes are supporting the system.

Complete BS. Why don’t we altogether abolish the INS and US Border Patrol while we’re at it!

If they were brought here against their will, once they turn 18, there is nothing from stopping them from going BACK HOME. Why should free tuition be a reward for coming here illegally?

Yeah thats right...kids who come here as infants, have a real choice...lets show our compassion by showing them the door and sending them back to a country that they know nothing about....great idea!

I agree. I fully support in-state tuition for legal immigrants. As for illegals; how can one justify the expenditure of public funds for people actively engaging in costly criminal acivity? This is insane and I will never understand.

So they have to pay the sames rates as citizens from out-of-state would. Why is that so horrible? It's not stopping them from going to college.

It's not like they're being deported.

What's wrong with it if they're legal immigrants who have an established, bonafide state residency? If my German wife goes back to school, I sure hope she gets in-state tuition.

I live in Texas, but am a U.S. citizen. Can I be considered an illegal immigrant when I travel there, and get in-state tuition the same as an immigrant from another country might get?

Thats more reaonsable. I still have a problem with the state sanctioning illegal immigration, but if these students and/ or theri parents are paying taxes (which I highly doubt) they shoould be allowed to attend the coolege for the same tuition rate as other in staters...

Link to emails, etc of the Higher Education Budget Division.

We need to start letting ALL these legislators know how we feel about "aiding and abetting" illegals.

The better question would be.....should Americans citizens be held responsible for the sins of their fathers.

Maybe the state can create a special fund to pay for those illegals in college? If you believe they deserve a price break, you can send your money to pay for them. Personally, I would rather keep my own money than have it support illegals.
