I wondered that too. That deputy must not have been paying attention. It is considered a really bad thing, if you are an officer with a weapon, to have it taken from you.

And, how did this perp get out of the courthouse and onto the street without other police or deputies stopping him? I heard this was on the 8th floor. Did he run down the stairs; use the elevator, what?

I'll be interested in learning where the perp was in relation to the deputy within the courtroom. We were taught to not get within an arm's length of a felon while transporting them, guarding them in a hospital, or attending funerals, doctor appts., etc. with them. Because our clientele were already convicted felons, they were always fully restrained when taken outside the facility.

This rapist appears to have better shooting skills than alot of the cops out there. How he got off 4-5 shots and hit four people is beyond me, and then be allowed to get out of the courtroom and building to boot. Very bad security.
