Political road rage [another deluded lib loses it over Bush/Cheney bumper sticker]

South Tampa, Florida - On Tuesday evening, Michelle Fernandez was driving down Armenia in South Tampa with her two children in the car, when another driver tried to run her off the road. The man had a sign over his passenger window that said 'Never forget Bush's illegal oil war murdered thousands in Iraq.'

Fernandez has a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker on her car. Fernandez called police from her cell phone when the driver began yelling, blowing his horn, and following her.

9-1-1 Dispatch
Dispatch: Where are you on Kennedy?

Caller: Right now I'm on Kennedy and Arrawana. Look, he just pulled over next to me, he's stopping the car, it's ridiculous this man! Look he's running after my car, Oh my goodness, he's a fanatic, he's in the middle of the street!

For nine minutes Fernandez stayed on the phone with dispatchers, turning on busy streets, hoping to lose the other driver. The dispatcher heard a horn honking in the background.

Dispatch: Is that him blowing his horn at you?

Caller: No I was blowing my horn at somebody 'cause I'm running stoplights and everything else to get away from him.

Fernandez was finally able to throw the driver off her trail. She ended up going to a near-by little league ball park and waited for police to file a report. They arrested Nathan Winkler at his home. They found the sign in the car.

Joe Durkin, Tampa Police spokesperson
"When we contacted him, his indication to the officers of why he was upset, was because he says 'the victim flipped him off, and that's why I pursued her.' But this is taking political views to an extreme."

Winkler is now charged with aggravated stalking/road rage, which carries a five year sentence.

I've always considered making a sign to hold up to cars as I pass them, letting them know that I don't appreciate those political mascots and unwanted intrusions of propaganda pasted on their bumpers. It's silly to flip the bird, and uncivilized. Yet, how can I let idiocy go unchallenged? I thought I'd make a sign I could hold up while I pass, that reads,
Your Bumpersticker Isn't a License to Speak
(btw, I think you're an idiot)
Or maybe, just,
Wrong!
Or something like that.

I mean, I have to put up with their idiocy, why can't I talk back?

Five year sentence? He wont be available to vote in the next Presidential election!!

No, but his sex life will improve... assuming that he's an open minded fellow who doesn't mind being called "Sharlene".

Once the new FL law on self defense law passes there may be some very different endings to these sort of threads.

I think the woman could have smoked that dirtbag and there would be no way a Florida jury would convict. The fruitloop tailed her how many miles, through how many red lights? Sounds like he even got out of the car. She had her children with her too. If she put a new .45 inch hole in him it'd no doubt be a good shoot.

Putting the stalker in the morgue probably won't stop him from voting democrat in the next election however.

Funny and ironic.

I have bumper stickers on the back of my car which read "I Support Veterans Against Kerry", "Who's your President now, bitch?", "Boycott France" and "Dean People Suck".

Yesterday at the dry cleaners a woman walks in carrying a library book and says to me, "I think your bumper stickers are outdated,"

When I asked "why" and stated the Inauguration was barely a month ago she shot back, "your stickers are inappropriate".

I calmly asked if she makes the same statement when she sees people with anti-Bush stickers on the back of their car.  She mumbled something and I again asked her, "do you tell people with anti-Bush stickers on their car the same thing."

Her reply, "I don't see those stickers around!"

The owner of the dry cleaner and myself just laughed!

I can't prove it, but know my passenger car door was kicked in because of my Bush sticker at a Houston mall. I was parked perfectly in the lines and never saw anyone who would have even gotten p*ssed off with anything about me. My entire family is convinced it was an @sshole dem and he/she caused me to be out a couple of hundred in repairs.

I look at it this way: Small price to pay for the win!

Why didn't you report it immediate to Officers at the mall? They have camera in the parking lot, perhaps the criminal was caught on tape!

I love the idea that stalking can now be legally tied to road rage. I've been witness to it, and the two really can be conceptually joined.

I encountered one of those at a Family Dollar check out.
For no reason I could discern..Well, unless he noticed my bumper stickers when I pulled in..
He went off on me so badly that the girl behind me grabbed her little boy like the guy was gonna go "postal".
Ranting about the "war for oil" and innocents dying and you know,, like he watched Farenhiet 9-1-1 and had a life-changing experience.
Next time I was there I looked up the manager and told him about the tirade. He said I was the third person to complain about the guy.
Haven't seen him around there lately..
Maybe he HAS had a life-changing moment.

I believe a great many of us have paid a number of these "small prices" over the last few decades. Quite a few patriots are in jail, as well for exercising their constitutional rights.

It is time for the Republicans in DC to deliver. They control the Presidency, the House, and the Senate. There is no longer any excuse to keep them from appointing honest judges with integrity to the Supreme Court.

We have paid the price, it is time for the reward.
