"Terror plot to cripple UK in cyber attack"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "British security officials are normally extremely reluctant to discuss potential threats even semi-publicly, but the need for increased action from the private sector is driving a newfound openness.

Intelligence officials say that no matter how much the state does to prepare for cyber-terrorism, a great deal will rest on the willingness of businesses to "harden" their systems against attack

Sir David confessed to his audience that he had doubts about commenting publicly on security threats, not least for fear of sparking undue panic. He insisted that his remarks constituted an attempt to "inform" or to "alert", but stopped short of being a "warning".

Britain has not yet experienced genuine acts of cyber-terrorism, but Sir David said intelligence chiefs are in little doubt that the country must be ready for such an attack.

While the mandarin did not name al-Qaeda or its affiliates, he left little doubt that the followers of Osama bin Laden are developing their electronic warfare capabilities.

"Many of those who have been arrested or about whom we know have a very high level of technological awareness," Sir David said.

A combination of the terrorists' increasing technological sophistication and Britain's growing dependence on electronic networks means this is considered "a threat which will rise in silence"."

"Military Court Convicts Three Iraqis for Terror Plot Against U.S., Israeli" Targets
?
By Shafika Mattar Associated Press Writer ?
Published: Mar 22, 2005 ?

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "AMMAN, Jordan (AP) - A Jordanian military court convicted three Iraqis Tuesday of smuggling rockets and hand grenades into the kingdom in connection with a plot to attack U.S. and Israeli targets.

Separately, the retrial of 10 militants convicted in another foiled terror plot resumed.

The three Iraqis were charged with crimes including importing and possessing handguns, automatic rifles, hand grenades and rockets. However, the court found insufficient evidence to convict them on a charge of "conspiring to carry out terrorist attacks" in Jordan - an offense punishable by death.

Only two of the three men are in police custody: Ahmed Mohammed Ali Ayed, 26, and Lawrence Hamid Rashid Muhanna, 28. Their 15-year sentences were immediately commuted to 7 1/2 years with hard labor. They said they would appeal.

The third, Muawiya Muhanna, was sentenced to 15 years in absentia.

The men were arrested Oct. 12, 2003, after police stopped their vehicle - carrying concealed weapons - at a roadblock on a highway just west of Amman."

Iran to set up secret nuclear faculty: intelligence source

Golly, those pious mullahs couldn't be trying to deceive anyone, could they? From AFP, with thanks to Nicolei:

VIENNA : Iran is to establish a secret nuclear engineering faculty within a year to provide engineers for what the United States claims is a covert project to develop atomic weapons, a Western intelligence source told AFP.

"This is a very significant step towards training an Iranian nuclear cadre," the source, who asked not to be named, said in a recent interview.

The Sunday Telegraph newspaper reported in London Sunday that Iran has approved a secret nuclear research centre to train scientists in atomic technology.

Iranian officials, questioned by AFP recently, have so far declined to comment on this matter.

"The declared purpose for establishing the faculty is to create a source of skilled and professional manpower to promote Iran's military nuclear project, whose activity is increasing," the source told AFP.

"By setting up this installation, the Iranians are trying to make sure they have trained people whom the West doesn't even know about," the source said....

IMO: no, not like it is now. You'd think the situation would improve rather than get worse after 9/11.

Well, that's interesting and yes, one would think it would improve. Maybe New Yorkers and New Jersians (sp?) should ask that question I just posed and figure out how to solve the problem.

The nine arrested in Tucson were identified as Mexican nationals, and they worked for Pacific Maintenance Co., which cleans facilities at Honeywell, IBM and Texas Instruments.

Methinks it's up to Honeywell, IBM and Texas Instruments for their buyers and PA's to draw up contract language specifying that all workers must be legal citizens or documented workers. They know what they need to do to subcontractors who disregard signed contracts.....unless the contracts are shams, written up to specifically to satisfy government rules and regulations. Here's where our government needs to step in and teach them the meaning of the word "FINE" (and it's not the good kind of "fine.").

Suspicious of something? It never hurts to get it checked out!

I have no problem doing just that. In fact I made a police report just this week when at around 4:00 AM I saw what appeared to be a flashlight in the darkness at new home construction across the road from us. It took seconds to dial 911 and report the suspicious activity. There have been several burglaries in my area of new construction sites lately. The perpetrator(s) turned off their headlights past our house and turned down a sideroad, which I also reported to police. I don't know what happened beyond that, but I can only hope they were greeted by flashing lights further down the road (closer to town). No one should be in a newly constructed home at 4:00 AM in the dark and drive away without headlights on IMHO unless they are up to something evil.

ACCUSED TEENAGE GUNMAN WAS AN ADMIRER OF HITLER

ON "MORALITY REJECTING" GROUP RUNNING NAZI.ORG

Other Sites Apparently Carried by Same Internet Provider Appear to Promote bin Laden and Promote Violence

against Christians and their Churches, Jews and Muslims

REDBY, Minn. The suspect in the worst U.S. school shooting since Columbine smiled and waved as he gunned down five students, a teacher and a guard, asking one of his victims whether he believed in God, witnesses said.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that the teen's grandfather and his grandfather's wife also were found dead, and the boy killed himself.

The shooter was Jeff Weise, a 17-year-old student who had been placed in the school's Homebound program for a policy violation, school board member Kathryn Beaulieu told the AP. Students in that program stay home and are tutored by a mobile teacher. Beaulieu said she didn't know what Weise's violation was, and couldn't say if she did.

Reggie Graves, a student at Red Lake High School, told the AP he was watching a movie about Shakespeare in class Monday when he heard the gunman blast his way past the metal detector at the school's entrance, killing a guard.

Then, in a nearby classroom, he heard the gunman say something to his friend Ryan. "He asked Ryan if he believed in God," Graves told the AP. "And then he shot him."

Weise posted numerous messages (www.nazi.org/community/forum/YaBB.cgi?board=News;action=usersrecentposts;username=Todesengel) on the neo-Nazi Web site, www.nazi.org, the cyber home of the Libertarian National Socialist Green Party (LNSGP),  expressing admiration for Adolf Hitler.

An April 19 2004 posting by Weise read, "I'm being blamed for a threat on the school I attend because someone said they were going to shoot up the school on 4/20, Hitler's birthday, and just because I claim being a National Socialist, guess whom they've pinned?"

On May 26 2004 Weise wrote, "The school threat passed and I was cleared as a suspect, I'm glad for that. I don't much care for jail, I've never been there and I don't plan on it."

In the same post Weise wrote that while he tries not to be aggressive he would use force if he had to.

On March 19 2004 as an introduction to his participation in the forum Weise wrote, "I guess I've always carried a natural admiration for Hitler and his ideals, and his courage to take on larger nations. I also have a natural dis-like for communism. When I was growing up, I was taught (like others) that Nazi's were (are) evil and that Hitler was a very evil man etc. Of course, not for a second did I believe this. Upon reading up on his actions, the ideals and issues the German Third Reich addressed, I began to see how much of a lie had been painted about them. They truly were doing it for the better."

Writer Steve Martinez of the Nationalist News Network (www.nazi.org/nazi/policy/weise) wrote that the LNSGP, "on whose message board Jeff Weise posted one year before shooting people at his Minnesota high school, today refused to wring hands over a ‘tragedy,' instead pointing out that such events are to be expected when thinking people are crammed into an unthinking, irrational modern society. According to the LNSG, the school shooting itself is not our failure; society is our failure, and the school shooting is a symptom."

""We knew [Weise] briefly through 34 posts he made on the forum," said LNSGP forum administrator Atem. "He expressed himself well and was clearly highly intelligent and contemplative, especially for one so young." Weise participated in the forum in part because, unlike ‘white nationalist' or ‘white power' movements, the LNSG embraces all races as part of its vision of world nationalism. His statements on the site reflected a frustration with the populist politics and materialistic arrogance of modern society."

     But what is the LNSGP?

The group, which says "We reject morality in all its forms as unnatural, "also describes itself on its web site (www.nazi.org/library/faq/#about_lnsg) like this.

A Graphic on www.nazi.org

"We are Nazis in that we believe in the core philosophy of the National Socialist movement, among other related movements such as Libertarianism and the Green party. You have probably been taught a demonization of Nazism and find it inseparable from race politics and wars of eugenics, but a more traditional reading of the culture yields an interpretation of Nazism based more in its philosophy than in the outcome of its birth ... we believe most of the Nazi regime has been misrepresented by a simplistic historical view that follow propaganda more than historical reality."

Another Graphic on www.nazi.org

Hosted on the same computer server as www.nazi.org are a profusion of other hate sites. An extract from one site (www.churcharson.com/solution/index.html) reads that once a desired "new society" is achieved, "the executions of diehard Christians and Jews should bother no one."

Another site, www.unholy.info  (also at www.666usa.com), has a headline reading, "The Satanic Coalition. Keeping the Flame Alive. Each palace of God that burns is a victory for Satan." Underneath are seven pictures of burning churches.

A Burning Church

Another site (www.f***god.com (and a mirror site www.amerika.org) has a banner extolling Osama bin Laden as a "Messenger of Peace and Prophet of Change."

A Banner Extolling Osama bin Laden on www.amerika.org

A comment on those sites reads, "Maligned in the press and Jewish-owned media, as Arabs have been for more than three decades, Osama bin Laden is portrayed as a hateful lunatic who detests the voting process so much that he orders blind followers to bomb major New York landmarks. The truth is that Osama bin Laden has quietly and with strength been working for his people since the first major western incursions with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979."

Another web site (www.f***christ.com) reads in part, "We support the furthest limits of extinction of this menace that can be legally posted on a web site. We do not support anything illegal, but we do know that somebody needs to rid us of this menace. For those who are inclined to take action for the future of the human species, history provides us with an excellent example in the use of two common implements."

However, while the writer says the group supports nothing illegal underneath are pictures of an oven and the crucifixion. Sliding a computer mouse over the oven graphic produces the following comment, "The Germans put Jews into ovens during the holocaust but Christians and Muslims fit also."

All of these sites, including the www.nazi.org site, appear to be hosted by the Virginia-based Throne Networks.

A call to Throne Networks was not returned and an e-mail requesting comment was returned as undeliverable.

The company's policy on hosting reads in part (www.throne.net/policies.html), "We do not censor customer web pages because of objections to the opinions expressed within. Our policy adheres to the precedents established for Human Rights by the United Nations, the United States Constitution, and applicable state and local laws. ‘Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. - The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 19.' However, if a user's web page contains illegal material such as copyright violations or child pornography, we will gladly shut down the page or force the user to remove such content."

Throne Networks apparently buys computer space from a Chantilly, VA-based company called Two Radical Technologies, Inc. Their web site is www.2rad.net

An individual who answered the phone at www.2rad.net said the situation would be investigated and he asked that a formal complaint be directed to the company's abuse department.

A computer generated response from 2rad.net read in part, "2RAD is dedicated to ensuring that its service is used in a manner that is consistent with the policies set forth in its Terms Of Service Agreement and Acceptable Use Policy.2RAD has received your e-mail, and will investigate your complaint."
Two Radical Technologies' hosting of the sites apparently administered by Throne Networks does appear to be in violation of www.2rad.com's acceptable use policy which reads in part (www.2rad.net/acceptable_use.html), "Customer shall not post, transmit, re-transmit or store material on or through any of Services or Products which, in the sole judgment of the Company (i) is in violation of any local, state, federal or non-United States law or regulation, (ii) threatening, obscene, indecent, defamatory or that other-wise could adversely affect any individual, group or entity (collectively, ‘Persons') or (iii) violates the rights of any person."

"U.S. Official Shot and Wounded in Darfur"
By Associated Press

March 22, 2005, 5:45 PM EST

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "WASHINGTON -- An American foreign assistance official was shot and wounded Tuesday while riding in a four-vehicle convoy in the lawless Darfur region of western Sudan, the State Department said.

The woman, who suffered facial wounds, was treated at a facility in Sudan before being evacuated to another country for additional treatment, said State Department spokesman Adam Ereli.

Signs on the vehicle clearly showed it was being used for humanitarian purposes. The road had been considered safe for travel by the United Nations' security office in Darfur."

"Amount of terror-related cash moving through Canada doubles: money trackers"

Tue Mar 22, 2:23 PM ET

OTTAWA (CP) -

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "And while he didn't have the year-end figures yet, Fintrac director Horst Intscher said Tuesday that he expects the agency will have actually tracked twice the $70 million in questionable movements it looked at in the previous fiscal year, 2003-2004.

That may not mean an increase in terror activity in Canada but instead, likely reflects maturity in the agency, founded just five years ago, he suggested to the Commons finance committee.

Its database is becoming larger and more sophisticated for tracking suspicious movements of money and that is increasing its value to police, added Intscher.

The quality of information has improved, he said."
