And I bet Jeff Gannon was the shooter! Well, I guess it could have been Karl Rove. Or Halliburton....

This disgusting propaganda is proof that the media is neither free nor fair.

Terrorist sympathising reporters should not be allowed into the country. It just isn't worth it.

These nitwits brought the attack on themselves. Had they stopped they would not have been fired on.

Why did the Italians refuse to stop for the checkpoint?

This is the same Pier Scolari who just yesterday said he didn't blame the troops because they were just "scared boys" but he blames the people who sent them to Iraq.

He seems to be trying out different storylines.

""Giuliana had information, and the US military did not want her to survive,""

Why didn't they shoot her again before they pulled her out of the car?

These people are a joke. They made sure that everyone knew that she thanked her captors. And now with her new fame she will beat the US over the head for years.

It seems to me that a troop withdraw is in order because the elections were a success. Let’s let the Italians go home.

The companion of freed Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena on Saturday leveled serious accusations at US troops who fired at her convoy as it was nearing Baghdad airport, saying the shooting had been deliberate.

"They were 700 meters (yards) from the airport, which means that they had passed all checkpoints."

This is the hole in the story, if they were within the airport security perimeter why would they be 1- speeding and 2- refuse to stop even when challenged.

I guess they didn't consider American troops with a roadbloack setup inside a perimeter to be a checkpoint.

Hmmmm, they had already passed the checkpoints and yet the car was hit head on in the engine block. What was it doing, backing all the way to the airport?

I have no idea what really happened but ignorance won't stop me now!

1) Like all accidents, this probably had several things happen at the same time. The Italians panicked when our vehicle showed up. Maybe they thought it was terrorists attacking.

2) Our guys are pumped up because of all the VBIED attacks (I would be). They see a car that won't stop, so they stop it.

3) The cellphone nonsense may be related to jamming. I've read that we jam cell frequencies near our patrols to prevent remotely detonated IEDs.

I totally agree with the other posters. If we *wanted* to kill the woman, she would be in a body bag. Any claims otherwise are [how do Italians write b*llshit?].

"Giuliana had information, and the US military did not want her to survive," he added.

lol.....If you're someplace on this planet, and the US Military knows where, and "they" don't want you to survive: around 24 hours is the longest you'll last before being atomized.

Sgrena told RaiNews24 television Saturday a "hail of bullets" rained down on the car taking her to safety at Baghdad airport, along with three secret service agents, killing one of them.

If Sgrena wanted to see a real "hail of bullets," shouldn't an AC-130 gunship have been called in to accomodate her delusion?

Yes... I'm quite sure that the Americans deliberately shot at the car that was speeding toward them and refusing to stop. It was deliberate, all right!

"They were 700 meters (yards) from the airport, which means that they had passed all checkpoints."

Nope. Apparently not. If they thought so, they made a fatal mistake.
