Sometimes with hermaphrodites, the genitals do not become apparent until puberty. Sometimes parents raise someone as a girl only to find out they get a "growth" around the time of adolescence. They have more male hormones than female ones...it's all very confusing for everyone.
If the kid is not hermaphroditic though...the kid needs to be in therapy. There may be some weird hormonal imbalance.
of these people have no concept of a girl being a "tom boy". Such a phase is normal and beyond the concept of these INSANE PC parents.
Thanks for your interesting take on this subject. I was also wondering how much of the the story remains untold. Such a decision must have been made with a whole lot of consideration of the consequences. I am doubtful that sane parents along with medical consultants would have done such a thing without some profound reasons.
Still, I do wonder why they did it so early in the child's life. If the child really is a hermaphrodite exhibiting characteristics of both genders, perhaps it is better to rectify the ambivalence early before puberty?

that was my first guess too, that this case might involve some sort of hermaphroditism, a birth defect involving the genitals, something like that. If not, than this is one sick situation and those parents are criminals.
