I saw Steve Goodman sing the Perfect Country Western Love Song at the 1975 Manitoba Folk Festival, about two years before David Allan Coe had the hit, by which time Goodman was dead of cancer.

Actually, Steve Goodman didn't die until 1984 -- he was quite alive when David Allen Coe made a country mega-hit of "You never even call by my name."

Goodman was a major talent -- funny, literate, and clever. Not many songwriter/singers like that, now or even then.
