What is the most awesomely bad love song ever? The one that makes you cringe when you hear it, but you just can't turn it off. What love song makes you shake your head, roll your eyes, laugh, gag, shed a tear, or just punch something because it's so horrendously great that you love to hate it. Or is it vice versa? VH1 is counting down the 40 Most Awesomely Bad Love Songs....The kind of songs that might end a relationship rather than enhance it. You get the drift.

Join us as we count down and celebrate fantastically cheesy lyrics, the best and worst metaphors, awkward and confusing themes, and of course, those strange, misguided flukes from our favorite artists, while our team of experts help explain why we've deemed these songs so (un)worthy. We've been covering our ears, shutting off the radio, and running from the room screaming for too long. It's time to ban these songs to our awesomely bad Hall of F(Sh)ame!

But who can forget this touching love song from the late Johnny Cash:

Delia, oh, Delia Delia all my life
If I hadn't have shot poor
Delia I'd have had her for my wife
Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

I went up to Memphis
And I met Delia there - found her in her parlor
And I tied to her chair
Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

She was low down and trifling
And she was cold and mean
Kind of evil make me want to grab my submachine
Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

First time I shot her I shot her in the side
Hard to watch her suffer
But with the second shot she died
Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

But jailer, oh, jailer Jailer,
I can't sleep 'Cause all around my bedside
I hear the patter of Delia's feet
Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

So if your woman's devilish
You can let her run
Or you can bring her down and do her
Like Delia got done
Delia's gone, one more round Delia's gone

- Delia's Gone - from American Recordings - 1995

Thought music would never survive the early to mid-70's.

An absolute gold mine of the worst trends of all time. Without even straining, remember these romantic classics?

Seasons in the Sun
Billy, Don't be a Hero
Brandy
I'm the Happiest Girl in the Whole USA
You Light Up My Life
Shannon
Killing Me Softly With His Song

I don't have the endurance to read the whole thread, but if these haven't been mentioned, we are being thankfully forgetful.

The so-called singer of the original Macarthur Park was a thespian named Richard Harris (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001321/). Here is one website that tries to explain what in the hell the lyrics meant (http://www.songfacts.com/detail.lasso?id=1875) but I admit that the site doesn't explain all. IMO, I agree that this is a cruel song to play.

"...the cake was left out in the rain..." WTH?

Funny sidenote that Macarthur Park was playing in the elevator in spoof Airplane. The two main characters were discussing the disaster calmly while all the other elevator passengers were writhing in pain.
