... said Zahi Hawass, Egypt's top antiquities official.

This guy is the biggest media glutton around. He places himself in the center of every news story and TV program about Egyptian archaeology.

Thank you! That IS magnificent bead work.

Seems when it comes to decent photos all newspapers know how to publish is mugs of petty politicos yammering at microphones.

That is pretty amazing. Never seen an instance of the beadwork remaining intact.

----Curiously, the archealogists were amazed that the 4,200 year old mummy bore an astonishing resemblance to Helen Thomas. ---But I understand, much better preserved

... and it is written that when the blow hard ego maniac HAWASS passes that his image will be obliterated by the next appointee to the big mucky muck position. (just as the images or predecessors were defiled by successive Pharaohs,)

"and it is written that when the blow hard ego maniac HAWASS passes that his image will be obliterated by the next appointee to the big mucky muck position. (just as the images or predecessors were defiled by successive Pharaohs,)"

Is that why I haven't heard anything recently from his predecessor, Dr. Gaballa Ali Gaballa? I took an Egyptology class from him in 1981, and I figured he retired in 2002.

As for Zahi Hawass, I fully expect him to be a ham for the camera, since he was one in the FOX specials a few years back. Currently I'm teaching a history class at my church on Wednesday nights, and one of the things we talked about this week was the recent CAT-scan of Tutankhamen. I happened to have six pictures of them taking Tut out of his sarcophagus and running him through the scanner, saved from various online news stories. Would you believe Zahi got his white-haired head in all but one of them?

Seems like we agree. here was a special on TUT's croakation the other night. Speculation that he had a variety of spinal problems. He had scoliosis and ??? which in effect fused the top portion of his spine with his head. The problem made him vulnerable to the death blow received perhaps n the desert during a hunting tip on a chariot. Although they pinned the wrap on the PM, it would seems that the military commander in chief would have been accompanying TUT on another chariot.

At any rate, HOGWASH was there too. I do believe the long standing history of removing the likeness of a predecessor will continue with Hawass' successor. The person will just pump out MORE FILMS, SPECIALS and GRANT MORE EXCAVATOIN RIGHTS!

“One of the paintings on the wall of the tomb shows a young Helen Thomas making a sand castle.”

Oh, that’s ridiculous.

She has no artistic talent at all.
