He might have lived across the street from me. There was a party in the house and I went over to get my dog out and they invited me to stay.

It was the promo party for the Los Gonzo band's first album. About all I remember is sharing a bottle of mescal with an old wino. I didn't know he was Willie Nelson until the next evening when the lady who lived there thanked me for taking care of his girlfriend. But that was Austin in the 70s.

Yup, sounds like the Austin that I remember. Grew up in Victoria, not far from there. Visited a friend one weekend, the first night 3 raccoons opened his screen door, came in and proceeded to eat some dogfood in his kitchen.

Turns out, they were regulars. I REALLY needed another beer after that.
