WORLD CHURCH OF THE CREATOR APPEALS TO JUSTICE STEVENS OF THE UNITED
STATES SUPREME COURT TO STOP COURT-ORDERED BIBLE BURNING!
REVEREND HALE FACES POSSIBLE IMPRISONMENT ON JANUARY 8TH
December 20, 2002
The World Church of the Creator ("Church") today filed a special appeal to Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens in an effort to stop the court-ordered burning of its Bibles and the arrest of its adherents for allegedly failing to comply with the obviously unconstitutional order. In its appeal, the Church cites the reasonable probability that four Justices will hear the case, the fair prospect that the high Court will find the decision of the Court of Appeals stripping the Church of the name it has had for the past thirty years to be erroneous, and the irreparable harm to the Church if a stay is not granted. The Church's petition for a writ of certiorari was filed on November 13, 2002.
Due to a heightened state of political correctness brought on by the ongoing "war on terrorism", the national news media has largely ignored this story thus far--the story of Federal Judge Joan H. Lefkow of the Northern District of Illinois actually ordering that adherents of a church turn over their Bibles to be destroyed. The order, issued on November 19th, came following the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals' reversal of Judge Lefkow's earlier ruling in the Church's favor dismissing the case. Following that reversal, Lefkow issued her draconian order designed to destroy the religious liberties of the Church. Now, following Reverend Hale's public comments about the obvious unconstitutionality and illegality of Lefkow's order, Lefkow has scheduled a hearing for January 8th ordering the Church and Reverend Hale to show cause why they should not be held in contempt. The hearing will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the United States Courthouse, 219 S. Dearborn St. Room 1925, Chicago. Creators (adherents of the Church's Creativity religion) and supporters in general are expected to pack the courtroom.
Reverend Hale stated today, "We are hopeful that Justice Stevens will grant us a stay in this case since the standards for such a stay are overwhelmingly met in this case. After all, there is simply no reason why the burning of our Bibles and the arrest of our adherents should proceed while the case is still pending before the United States Supreme Court. After all, we deserve to be heard before the "thought police" come kicking down our doors, don't we? What is happening here is a complete spit in the face to all those who have fought and died for this country. However, I say today that before anyone thinks about fighting to defend America in the future, they need to ask themselves whether a country that tolerates the burning of a religion's Bibles is worth defending."
Lastly, Reverend Hale stated, "I am prepared to go to jail if need be for the most worthy cause in the history of this world: our White Race and for freedom in general. Our position remains that the right of the people to read the Bible of their choosing supersedes any right of a federal judge to ban it."
