The first name that popped out of U.S. Sen. John McCain's mouth Sunday as the Republican choice for president in 2008 was Jeb Bush, but the governor's spokesman repeated his position that he has no plans to run.
"If you're looking at dynasties, and by the way I'm a great admirer of Governor Bush, he's done a great job in Florida," the Arizona senator said on "Fox News Sunday." But he added, "This might be a wide-open situation."
In response to McCain's remarks, Bush spokesman Jacob DiPietre said: "The governor is focused on his job right now. He's got an ambitious agenda for his remaining time in office and has said repeatedly that he has no intentions of running" for president in 2008.
Jeb should run for another public office but not Prez. He doesn't want to anyway. However, I think it would be great if he were to be a Senator.
me 2!
that's a no brainer.
but i don't see jeb beating the clingon.
overweight white men don't go far in politics. ask newt. he quit and wrote a diet book.
either way, that would be 28 years of 2 family dynasties. this isn't europe's aristocracy or hollywood.
it's a republic.
He's gotten to the point now where he loses his temper when asked, and turns red.
A few months ago, I swear I thought he was going to hit the reporter who asked him, Governor Bush just yelled at him.
He's not running, and considering his almost violent reaction to the questions, its not to wise to even ask him.
I hate to see that RINO get any press, the name is really starting to bug me
I agree. The Bush fatigue factor would work against Jeb. I also think the same factor would work against Hillary. If Hillary was elected President in 2008 (God forbid) that would mean either a Bush or a Clinton would have been President for the last 24 years.
I think the public is ready for a change. Hopefully that change will be a good conservative President.
McLame is trying to suck up to both sides (again) and Jeb should tell him to get lost.
You got that right.
I want Jeb!!
Jeb/Ginrich...Gingrich/Jeb, either wya.
That would make FL a lock and the rest of the south.
JEB BUSH
Birthdate: February 11, 1953
Family: Married, three children
Party: Republican
Elected: November 1998, re-elected November 2002
Term Expires: January 2007
JEB BUSH was born in Midland, Texas.
After first arriving in Florida, he helped start a real estate development company that today is one of the largest, full-service commercial real estate companies in South Florida. In 1987-88, he served as Florida's Secretary of Commerce and promoted Florida's business climate worldwide.
Following an unsuccessful bid in 1994 for the Governor's Office, Governor Bush founded the Foundation for Florida's Future, a not-for-profit organization to influence public policy at the grassroots level. As chairman of the foundation, he co-founded the state's first charter school - Liberty City Charter School - with the Urban League of Greater Miami.
He was elected Florida's 43rd Governor in 1998 and re-elected in 2002, becoming the first Republican to be re-elected Governor in the state's history. Since taking office, his top priority has been creating a world-class educational system through high standards and increased accountability. To achieve this goal, he has provided a record four-year increase of $2.9 billion (26 percent increase) in K-12 funding. He believes passionately that all children should learn a year's worth of knowledge in a year's worth of time.
Governor Bush also boosted the state's reserve funds while reducing the state's tax burden to its lowest level in a decade. He has focused the state's resources toward protecting Florida's natural environment with an historic $2-billion commitment to saving Florida's Everglades. He has also increased health insurance coverage for needy children and provided unprecedented levels of funding and services to the elderly and the developmentally disabled.
By taking advantage of online technology such as the state's web portal, www.myflorida.com, and thanks to outreach programs like his monthly "Open Office Hours" around Florida, Governor Bush continues to be the most accessible Governor in the state's history, providing all Floridians with greater opportunities to directly participate and communicate with their government and elected officials.
I saw McCain's comments. I took them as a left-handed slap at the Bush dynasty.
Who thinks Jeb would be good? McCain?.....~snore.... Oh look! I've got some lint in my navel.
Once more:
The best GOP ticket for 2008 is General Tommy Franks and Senator John Cornyn of Texas.
The only question is who runs as Prez, and who runs as VP.
'Rats are scared senseless of Cornyn, and Tommy Franks takes a back seat to nobody in the area of national security.
If Republicans want to win in '08, that's the ticket.
RINO scumbag.
Certainly not this one...
Interesting facts in Jeb's bio - he, too, was the first (R) governor to be re-elected in his state's history (like W), and also was #43.
I think he would be a terrific president ... too bad he's related to the president!
Methinks there is something rotten in the state of Arizona.
Condi's not pro-life? Shocking.
Why is Jeb a RINO? He seems pretty conservative to me.
I think if W Bush ends up all right he could run.
Wow, just when you think McCain has abandoned his Thorazine completely, he says something fairly sane.
