The Medical Symbol is a Stinking SNAKE.

That's from the Old Testement. In the desert during the exodus from Egypt, God told Moses to place a serpent on top of a pole. Whenever someone became ill, they only had to look up at the serpent (snake), and they were healed. It's origins were holy.
