Teri was diagnosed in 1993 as "improving", but has been denied even prescribed therapy by her husband Michael Schiavo ever since the courts awarded Teri settlements in excess of 1.6 million dollars due to malpractice. Michael Schiavo is the sole beneficiary of Teri's settlements upon her death.
