The literary champ was sitting in his command post kitchen chair, a piece of blank paper in his favorite typewriter, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot through the mouth hours earlier.

He bought into the praise heaped upon him by the drug addled New Left crowd. His best days were done by 1972. Perhaps he realized this a few days ago.
Yeh - his wife had a hard time deciding whether or not to bring a date to the wake.
You win...captured the essence of the man in less than 5 words. I might have added "selfish" in front of "imbecile" but that would have been 5 words.
Perception is one thing. Being beyond caring, beyond anguish is quite another. A selfishness beyond words.
