Any scotch over 30 years old taste poor, IMO.

A guy who works for a distillery over there told me that after 15 years it dos not do anything more for the stuff.
That I dont know about but what I do know is some of that stuff is vile tasting. Then some of the better stuff is as smooth as can be.

I have a bottle of Royal Salute, purchased in 1981.
I realize that aging in the bottle doesn't count, but....
21 + 24 means that the scotch is 45 years old.
Had to buy a bottle of 18 yr. old Chivas to keep me out of the Royal Salute.

Any scotch over 30 years old taste poor, IMO. Not so, but it has to be a very good scotch and handled very well. It is true that the run-of-the-mill single-malt shouldn't be in the barrel more than 20 years.

When we toured Gelgoyne distillery our guide said that past a certain point whiskey, unlike wine, did not improve with age.

Scotch is an acquired taste.
Kinda reminds me of the time as kids we were siphoning/stealing gas and I got a big snoot full. Now I neither drink scotch or put my mouth on a hose with gas on the other end!
