Well they're not actual scientists if they truly believe in something in which they have no proof. And we have none at this point, neither of any life existing on any other planet, or of how life can be created "out of the blue" using known elements.
I don't think they claim to be able to prove it. Or claim it to be a fact. They just believe it likely, which is as legitimate as believing it unlikely, IMO.
