Wow, that made me think. Very Zen :-) BTW, that is not my explanation, it is a quote from someone with his own point of view. MY explanation is (a) awareness during sleep paralysis for abductions, and (b) some sort of shared hallucination for the otherwise unexplainable (admittedly not any more rationalistic than more conventional UFO enthusiast explanations). I think there is a level of consciousness, call it collective unconscious or whatever, where people join together to play out human fears and hopes. That's why (besides unconscious simple copycatting) alien descriptions are stereotyoed, e.g. Grays, etc.

During my awareness during sleep paralysis, I had some weird experiences, too, not involving aliens, but, with a different personal mythology I reckon they might have taken on an X-Files cast.

Don't have time to go into it, but your interesting side-discussion may have it's parallel in the tales of people who 'wake up' during otherwise deep anesthesia.

BTW, there's tons of abduction stuff where the victims have had body marks, implants etc. and even empty wombs after the experience--immediately after--that they did NOT have going to bed.

Sleep paralysis doesn't begin to explain all of it.
