Theoretically the succession is to go to the nearest Protestant heir. However, there is a precedent in which the heir can be designated in a will.

If the Queen disapproved (or approved with conditions regarding succession to the throane) would she take the drastic step of passing over Charles in her will?

I ask because the Duke & Duchess of Windsor come to mind. It's been how many years ago? And from what I understand, he's still persona non grata.

And one more question whle I am at it LOL!!

Does the everyday, workaday Brit care? Serious question. Do you look to the throne for "leadership" (although not political) or do they hold just a sentimental spot in your hearts?

Would that be Edward VI? Wasn't he talked into designating his cousin Lady Jane Gray as his successor while on his deathbed?
