It's a matter of politeness. Give those who like him some time to grieve in peace, is that too terribly difficult to understand?

"nationwide nervous breakdown" since 9/11,

I guess we did that after December 7, 1941 as well. We would have had to speak a new and excited language had we not have had that "breakdown".

If they want to grieve in peace, I think there are more suitable places to do it than on a partisan political forum. HST gloried in being controversial. Why is it now improper to to stoke the fires of controversy in his case? Don't you think he would want people to make a lot of noise in the wake of his passing?

And you wait until some one is dead to kick them, brave.

Never said Hunter was perfect. But I enjoyed his writings, they were a lot of fun, he'd burned out most of his abilities in the last 20 eyars or so, but I'm saddened at his loss anyway. Genius or fool doesn't matter, what matters is that people that have a modicum of politeness don't speak ill of the dead until a few weeks have passed.

"On February 20, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson took his life with a gunshot to the head at his fortified compound in Woody Creek, Colorado," said a statement issued by Thompson's son, Juan Thompson
Thanks dad... I love you too.

I think people grieving should be allowed to live their life while doing so.

I think HST would enjoy a bunch of so-called conservatives being rude dicks at his death, because it would prove him right, and everybody likes to be proved right. If they REALLY want to insult him they should rise above and behave better than he thought they could.

I'm aware he commited suicide.

What is the point of your comment on his opinion of Nixon?

No matter how you die somebody has to find the body, and it's always gonna suck. I'm glad Juan was around, they'd been estranged after his mother left Hunter, it's good they gained some level of peace.

comment:Well he was nicer to dead people than you.
response: In a 1994 obituary for Nixon, Thompson called him "a liar, a quitter and a bastard. A cheap crook and a merciless war criminal."
My point was that Thompson's remarks about a dead Nixon did not seem 'nice'.
Please let me know if you would like me to explain in more detail.
Thank you.
Have a 'nice' day.

At least he waited until after the funeral. And his conflict with Nixon was long and well documented, and had made him a lot of money. And the death of Nixon brought the old Hunter back, that was the last thing he'd write (and the first thing in about 10 years he wrote) that had the pop of his early work.

Here you are the day after HST died being rude for no reason other than to fluff your own ego.

Yes, his love for his father is evident in the gonzo bit about "his fortified compound".. It's a tribute to his fathers style..

But of course, some cannot see that, because of their own myopia.

Well, I didn't wait until the day after HST died to criticize him. I did plenty of it when he was alive. Actually, if he knew me, he would think it was hypocrtical of me if I didn't. And I don't think anyone here has done anything other then give their honest opinion. At least I won't call you a name. Sounded to me as though you were the one "fluffing your ego." But that's your opinion and we are entitled to give our opinions. And we're all enetitled to dieagree. As I said, I'm sorry when any one dies. End of story.

My point was that Thompson's remarks about a dead Nixon did not seem 'nice'.

The truth is the perfect defense to a charge of libel.
Please let me know if you would like me to explain that concept in more detail. Thank you. Have a 'nice' day

Sometimes an honest opinion is best held. I never post on any thread about the death of a person I disliked, it's impolite.
