"In this day and age there is so much competition in news. By the time you get to prime time people know the headlines of the day." You got that right, buddy.

For the first time in its history, CNN's Headline News is tinkering with its all-news format. It would probably do better if it reported all of the news instead of just the half Ted Turner wants you to hear.

Ah, looks like they'll be switching from biased newscasts to 100% unfiltered propaganda.

Unless they dump their ideology they will remain in a last place battle with PMSNBC.

I would have picked the same quote to focus on, Liz.
The media is having a hard time reaching the well connected masses. It will only be harder for them moving forward. People have been freed by the ability to get news on demand rather than being fed news when the MSM demands. Podcasting is only going to make it worse, I think.
Best of luck to them.

"There's a very high interest among viewers in legal news and entertainment," Jautz said. Goody. What this tells me is that they anticipate the Michael Jackson trial being a big story, and they are blocking out 3 hours to cover it (entertainment and legal).
I can't tell you how excited I am at the prospect of all cable channels covering every sordid detail of Michael Jackson's psycho life, while they ignore such boring things as Social Security reform and foreign policy.

I bet if they hired Al Franken to report the news, ratings would pick up. And they could save money on his salary, too because he works for free these days. They also could save money on hiring reporters because Al just "improvs" what he says anyway.
Take my advice, CNN. It's a sure ticket to the top of the ratings and financial prosperity.

In the next hour, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., the network will air the legal talk show "Nancy Grace," hosted by the CourtTV anchor of the same name. A WHOLE hour of Nancy Grace? That should boost ratings. Not!

Another opening for FOX News. They could start a network where the anchors were professionals and simply read the news, without slipping editorial statements in.
The few times I've seen CNN's version recently they were trying too hard to be hip, and cool. From what I remember of them when they began, that is already a change from what they used to do.
To: Liz
Wasn't the whole point of Headline News to be a place where the news was read through a half hour cycle continuously so there was somewhere to go to catch up if the main network was doing one of their talkfests or other non news programs?

I hope Grace moves on totally to CNN. It would be good for both. Meanwhile Court TV could develop legal shows along the lines of trading places -- with real-world lawyers and real-world legal advice.

will begin airing "Showbiz Tonight" ... the legal talk show "Nancy Grace,"So they're going from news to fluff. Good solution. (As if the world needs Nancy Grace on yet another channel)
Reporting the news is too much work anyway.

The network will launch a new primetime lineup tomorrow the first time in the network's 20-plus years on the air that it's making a break from airing straight newscasts.

"We're doing it because it's a chance to use both of our networks in a complementary way," said Ken Jautz, executive vice president of CNN Newsgroup. This stuff is too hilarious to make up.
What an idiot!
Being the propaganda arm of the radical faction of the Democrat Party hasn't dragged you far enough into oblivion?
Seeking a quicker death?
What?

In primetime last year, Headline News' ratings were largely flat from the year before. Compared to their parent network; Headline News should count their blessings.

They should get a big round table and seat a dozen liberals sipping kool-aid and whining how evil conservatives are.
They can call it "Kool-aid With Kooks."

When I want to hear the latest slap at Bush Administration policy, or at Bush's ongoing success in Iraq, or on the GOP plan to reform social security and/or the tax code -- THEN I turn to CNN/Headline News.
Unfortunately, I don't care to hear such drivel, which means that Headline News is simply a flyby channel while I click my way from Discovery to the Movie Channel to Fox News.

They might as well bring the show during the day and make it into soap!!! That may keep their rating on par with "As the world turns..."
