Prayer Request for my 17 year old Daughter's Safe Return (Update: Found Safe)
February 20, 2005 | me

Posted on 02/20/2005 12:25:37 AM PST by Sunshine55

Please pray for my 17 year old daughter's safety, that the Lord is watching over her and protecting her from harm. I just filed a missing persons report with the Columbus Police Department about an hour ago, when it became apparent that I was not going to get the usual call from her letting me know where she was.

I left for work at 10:45 am and the last thing she said was that she was going to get her hair cut. No e-mail, no phone calls to me throughout the course of the day, which struck me as odd, because we hadn't had any harsh words and life seemed to be great. I got off work at 9 pm and she wasn't home, which isn't unusual because she spends alot of time with Young Life. Hours passed, no phone call. By 2 I was nearly hysterical with worry. I have left messages on her friends' cell phones hoping for a call back. I am sorry to say that I was not able to give the officer a description of what she was wearing, only a picture.

This is SO out of character for this young lady. She's always been the responsible one, even though she has been suffering from Senior-itis this year and has tested the boundaries to the limit. I am so frightened thinking of the possibilities here that I don't know where to turn, and I would appreciate your prayers tonight. I am hoping that perhaps she told me she'd be sleeping over tonight at a friend's house, but I have racked my brain, and frankly, I just don't remember any conversation like that taking place. (I haven't had a day off in 3 weeks.)

Wonderful news that she has been located and is still alive and well (sort of well, anyway).

Glad that the ending was a hangover (if I read between the lines) and somebody is going to get a rectal exam from CPS and the vice squad. My advice at this point is to offer your daughter no sympathy for the hang over and no cures. In fact offer her a beer and take satisfaction if she heads for the can! The first hang over is sometimes all it takes!

My credentials two very good looking daughters now aged 19 and 22 without police records.

That's so true. That attitude is not uncommon and in fact, I saw it in some acquaintances' parents when I was growing up.

Those parents felt that most kids would be out drinking and driving anyhow so they reasoned that it would be better if the kids were drinking in their own home rather than out and about.

The parents then hosted parties with booze in their homes, "knowing" their own kids were "safe" at home and not out drinking and driving.

Then and now I felt that it was the ultimate affront to parents who prohibited drinking for their own teenagers.

Praise God for the good news! I suspect you and Christina will be having a "come to Jesus" meeting this afternoon.

Thank God Sunshine. Here's hoping and praying that she's learned her lesson, or will soon.

Yeah . . . bad memories. ;-)

To this day (25 years later) I cannot stand even the smell of Jack Daniels.

The mother (I use that term loosely) seemed to have no problem with underage kids drinking in her home while she worked last night, claiming that "everyone left here with a designated driver."

These types of "cool" [read: grossly irresponsible] parents are EXACTLY the reason I will never let my children participate in any overnight field trip or the like, unless either my husband or I is one of the chaperones. And no overnights to places where we don't know and trust the parents (not good enough just knowing who they are). Overly protective? If a parent will play this crazy roulette game with their own kids, how much LESS are they going to care about mine?

A while back, there was a thread about a high school cheerleader who fell to her death naked out of the hotel room of a couple of guys. She was on a trip for a cheerleading championship or some such. The chaperone did not check to personally see that the girl was in her room at the designated curfew... IIRC she took a phone call from the girl saying she was okay. What a "cool" chaperone, right? Kids can find trouble even under the most watchful eyes, but the chances are greatly reduced when responsible adults are around. This girl did not even need to plot an after-hours escape.

Praise and Thanks--this is a special gift from God.

And please let your daughter know that a loving mother who cares about where the heck she is is ALSO a blessing from the Lord!

You showed great restraint by not knocking her out, I'm not sure I would have been so calm.

I had an aunt and uncle that allowed this kind of thing, their kids were a nightmare and ended up with drug and alcohol problems.

Funny you should mention Jack Daniels....LOL My "cure" for my then 16 yr old son when he came home drunk was for him to have a nitecap with dear ol' Mom. I asked him what he'd been drinking and he told me vodka. Told him we didn't have any of that but I fixed him a JD & coke (almost no coke). Made him drink the whole thing. He was still green the next morning. Never had a problem with him drinking again......LOL

BTTT on your resolve, Thinkin' Gal. This whole thread is a cautionary tale, one that should be printed out by parents who have kids on the way to becoming teens. I'm printing out a copy right now.
