That's true. Corrupt Liberals, socialist New Democrats and secessionist Bloquistes. Whatta country! In many respects, Harper's Conservatives are to the left of American Republicans. But they're considered too reactionary by the Canadian Left because they sound - well, so common sense. That's what makes them dangerous in Canada.

The Bloc and NDP are identical - if you ever listen to their economic policy. It's all social programs.

Yes, there are still a handful of red Tories in the Conservative party, so the real conservative element of Canada is very very small.

What I do find though is that conservative Canadians are more consistent conservatives often than Americans. Canadian conservatives tend to be truly laisse faire conservatives, who distrust any big government, and who are against all types of corporate welfare as well. The Republican party on the other hand, Bush being the exception, often justify big spending such as NASA, and don't seem to be bothered at all by corporate handouts.
