What on earth are you talking about? Even when I was a Protestant I knew St Mark's wasn't built on any Holy site. Venice was a relic poor city and went out and bought or stole their relics including the body of Saint Mark. They commissioned painters to commemorate the act. It was no secret they were proud to have rescued him from the Muslims in Egypt. They hid the body in a barrel of salt pork.
