Durango - Herb Young turned the telephone off again Tuesday after it rang at 12:40 a.m.

One recent caller had told him that "you should be found dead in a ditch."

Nine out of 10 calls to his house are from "crackpots," he said, ever since a plate of cookies and a case in La Plata County Small Claims Court turned life upside down.

Shooting girls who knock on your door is "sense"? Maybe to crackpots like your friend and this old nutbag it is but not to rational people.

She has to go to the hospital when NOTHING HAPPENED? Then tries to make these girls' lives miserable by dragging them into court for doing something nice. No wonder the RAT mentality is so hard to eradicate. Phoney Victimization at its worse.

Are you scared of your shadow too?

So the teenagers mother offered but never paid. Interesting.

From the article:
The Ostergaard and Zilletti families said they first waited to see a bill. Then they asked Young to sign an agreement that, with the roughly $900 paid, she would not make additional claims. Young said she was bothered by that request and the lack of trust she believed it signaled. By Dec. 30, she said, she felt that she had to go to court.

You're busted on a charge of sloppy reading.

They requested a copy of the medical billing that showed the unpaid $900... She didn't provide it. She also wouldn't signed the agreement to hold them harmless against future claims. When she refused to sign the release or provide evidence of her loss, they refused to pay. (I wouldn't have paid it either!) So, she dragged everyone into court with hopes of getting "pain and suffering" compensation in addition to the "actual damages." The judge awarded the woman exactly what the girls' parents had already offered.

Asking for a release from future claims was just a smart thing to do - especially when you have someone like this complaining against you. If you don't get it, they'll come back and try to hit you up for more money down the road, claiming that the initial incident is continuing to cause them harm.

She made a mountain out of a mole hill, and then complains because she is getting all of the negative publicity? She was blinded by the dollar signs in her eyes... I would even bet that she already had the "Pain & Suffering" money spent before they went to court...

In a rural area, three women alone in their basement heard the doorbell ring at 10:30 pm. When the woman and her daughter went to a window, they saw no car in the driveway. The girls had parked their car 500 yards away behind a grove of trees. They saw no one on the doorstep, but did see a shadow of someone along side the porch. They ran back downstairs and called the sheriff.

He came out and found the cookies on the steps. There were only initials of the girls on the package. The sheriff was mystified as to what what going on and advised them to leave their home for the night. They did.

The woman had a medical problem as they were returning to their home the next morning and went to the ER for tests. Later the husband had a hunch who had left the cookies by the initials. He called the father of the girls. They admitted that they had done it. The father offered to pay the $900, but never did. So, she took them to court.

These girls are lucky they were not shot for their charitable prank.

Thanks so much for the judgmental attitude, and ad hominem attack calling me stupid.

WE all don't come with brass ones. Some of us have had life experiences that make us less trusting than others.

I didn't say it terrified me, I said I understood some anxiety associated with an undexpected knock on the door at night. Frankly I think if you don't give some second thought to "what's going on here" you're looking for a problem.

Apparently YOU should never be trusted with a firearm either. This country is rapidly becoming filled with people afraid of their own shadow. No wonder those who believe in protecting it are so vilified.

Don't know... Believe it or not, my wife was never contacted beyond the first inquiry. Technically, the lady had a case, kind of like technically, the lady in Florida had a case.

After all, mold is everywhere in Seattle to one degree or another. That doesn't mean we sue over it.

'The father offered to pay the $900, but never did. So, she took them to court.'

REREAD THE ARTICLE. They offered to pay, wanted to see a copy of the medical bill, which was never produced. They wanted the woman to sign a waiver that she would not sue for anything else down the road...she refused. She wanted pain and suffering and whatever else she could get.

It wasn't a prank--it was a random act of kindness. A prank is TP'ing someone's house or egging their car.

I find it hard to believe the girls walked 1000 yards at night...just as i find it hard to believe the woman was alone with two other people

Is this sarcasm or is dts32401 a real lurker?

Hell, he's no lurker. His name is legion on here.

I'm only surprised that he and Bushistheman are the only ones who have shown up.
