It's happened. Several times.

Can't remember what they were pissed at Thune for. Probably saying he was in favor of the work visa program or something.

They went on to claim that the future of the party was having Tom Coburns in every office.

While I would have voted for Coburn, and like his positions on federal spending, I still know a guy who's slightly nuts when I see one. I don't mind one doesn't-play- well-with-others type guy in the Senate, but too many of them just keep things from getting done.

Other examples:

I got in an arguement the other day with a guy who said Schwartenegger is a pawn of wallstreet bigwigs who got him in the race to keep McClintock out of office.

Johnny Isakson is a RINO because he's not 100% pro-life, although he is great on every single other issue. I heard this one a lot.

Mel Martinez is really a democrat because he once worked as a trial lawyer, and he disgraced the Senate by speaking in spanish.

Tom Tancriado should run for president in '08 because they like his stance on immigration, even though he's never even won a statewide office and broke his term limits pledge.

At the same time, Nethercutt didn't deserve a vote for Senate because he broke his term limits pledge.

Zell Miller supported President Bush just to sell books, because no Democrat is ever really genuine about anything.

Oh, and the worst one: Suggesting Max Cleland was indeed a good G.I., just a lousy Senator, and getting beaten up for it REPEATEDLY. I literally have spend hours defending this POS's military record, just because I have too much respect for the military to let anybody's honorable service get trashed. (for the record, as far as Kerry is concerned, I don't really care what happened in Vietnam, and I'm willing to give him the benifit of the doubt when it comes to his purple hearts. What he did afterwards was disgraceful. ) I could go on and on. I recognize some of these are just kooks, but they are getting more and more frequent, more and more loud, and more and more insane.

...there's that and there's also the possibility that you aren't always correct??

Great post. Wonderful examples of the behavior. As a long-time poster/lurker, I have clearly seen a shift away from reasoned, lucid discussions. Anytime there is legitimate disagreement among good Conservatives, it seems to disintegrate into a slam session. Obviously I still visit and enjoy the articles, but I seldom post.
