1971
With President Lamar Muse at the helm, Southwest Airlines takes off on its maiden voyage and begins service between Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. America's most unique airline is born.
Further, if you go down the page to 1982, you'll notice they didn't start serving to Vegas until that year:
1982
Herbert D. Kelleher comes aboard as permanent President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board for Southwest Airlines, and Southwest spreads its wings to San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Phoenix.
Perhaps you are thinking of another airline that ran women to Vegas for abortions, but it's not Southwest.
You are quite right. I was all of eight years old at the time, so I am working from second hand info. I asked my Dad who thinks it was a now defunct airline Trans-Texas Air that became Texas International that had that reputation. Regardless, women in Texas with MONEY could always get an abortion. We have to change the mindset about abortion, not just criminialize it. Drug laws have not stopped drugs, and abortion laws won't save the unborn. We have to change women AND men's hearts.
That was the real point of my post.
WW
Points noted. The airlines you cite may have been the beginnings of what turned into Continental Airlines.
