I'm no censorship fan. That said, Green Day is extremely offensive to my ears - because their "music" really sucks, and because Billy Joe sings worse than me with his pathetic whine.

Does anybody care about the grammys or the oscars awards? I have never watched either one. I don't listen to the award winners or watch their movies, except Lord of the Rings, they got it right last year. I didn't watch it because it won. These awards are only for the winners, the rest of America doesn't care about any of it. Only the contestents watch this drivel. I can't stand to watch these stupid idiots nominate themselves and watch themselves get the awards. F@ck um. Note to award sponsors, quit sponsoring them, nobody watches or cares. Besides, they usually get it wrong, nobody watches the winners usually.

"a band that's grown up but hasn't left its punk roots behind: witness the smoothly practiced leap and landing from the riser by drummer"

Since when is punk roots defined as "the smoothly practiced leap"? Whatta load of crap!

They couldn't delete, however, singer Billie Joe Armstrong's pointed political reference to not wanting to be part of a redneck agenda.

If the censors couldn't keep that one off the air, it's not a problem. Mainly because the American agenda is rolling along with or without Billie Joe.

Billie Joe can join us if he wants, but if he doesn't, it's fine. We won without him and his west coast weaklings, and we'll continue to win even if he and his west coast weaklings resist us.

Green Day was energetic and confident, a band that's grown up

Grown up bands would not name an album "American Idiot"

I have never heard a thing that they have done and, for sure, I will avoid them in the future

Don't know what all the hullaballoo is over Green Day. They don't do anything that wasn't done better by the Clash, the Jam and a whole lot of other bands back in 1979. I thought they sounded pretty good on the Grammys, but that was mostly because they were surrounded by some of the most godawful crap that anybody ever tried to foist off on the gullible public as music. It's no wonder so many Grammys went to Ray Charles: even dead, he has more musical talent than most of these fashion models, poseurs and refugees from street gangs.

I remember when Green Day's first song came out. I'm not sure how they keep getting away changing the title of it and re-releasing it.

P.S. Thank God their not AMERICAN idiots.

The BACKWARDS US FLAG in the Green Day set did not go unnoticed, either.

Doesn't CBS or the Grammys producers have any protocol people? If they did, would they know or care about these things?

I know that Prince is weird and is all peace loving and all - and I don't like his later stuff - but I love his stuff from back in the Revolution/1999 days. I was happy to see that he won a Grammy for R&B song. My son wasn't happy that his fave band, Slipknot, were shut out by Motorhead and some other 20 year old band. SK appears crazy but they have creativity and smarts, and are marching to the beat of their own drum. They are all in their late 20's - early 30's. Gotta love that heavy metal, man.

Their lyrics are junior high school level at best:
Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new mania.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind f*** America.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Another:

I'm the son of rage and love
The Jesus of suburbia
From the bible of none of the above
On a steady diet of soda pop and Ritalin
No one ever died for my sins in hell
As far as I can tell
At least the ones I got away with

Get my television fix sitting on my crucifix
The living room or my private womb
While the moms and brads are away
To fall in love and fall in debt
To alcohol and cigarettes and Mary Jane
To keep me insane and doing someone else's cocaine
And one more:
Zieg Heil to the president gasman
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who criticize your government
Bang bang goes the broken glass and
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause, because we're outlaws yeah!
I can imagine the lyrics sheets have pentagrams, anarchist "A" symbols, stick figures fighting, and crude drawings of genitalia doodled all over them.

"Green Day was energetic and confident, a band that's grown up but hasn't left its punk roots behind: witness the smoothly practiced leap and landing from the riser by drummer Tre Cool. And Armstrong was a live wire."

That's this journalist's criteria for maturity? Did he not just before this quote a band member as stereotyping America as a redneck country? Is such sweeping, inaccurate, and shallow generalizing a sign of maturity?

What a bunch of aholes. All of them.

singer Billie Joe Armstrong's pointed political reference to not wanting to be part of a redneck agenda.

The country acts were actually quite good. I actually watched over an hour of the program. I remember a few years bck they only had CRAP RAP....I turned off immediately.

As far as the "new" rockers, never heard of any of them. Frankly, I'd rather watch a rerun of a Grammy show in the 60's or 70's than any "live" one. That was back when music was music.
