I was thinking a jewelry store because of the armament, probably AK's ("machine guns") and it's the day before Valentines, probably the store is loaded.
It's not in a residential area at all--it's on a state highway running through the outskirts of the city, nothing there but sprawl, mini-malls, etc.
The city of Kingston itself is a sad place--no tax base, no jobs, no industry, except the two hospitals--plenty of unemployed, people on SS, lots of drugs.
It was once a beautiful old city, and you can still see remnants of it in the architecture.
