Preaching optimism and slamming Democrats, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh was greeted like a rock star by a packed San Jose Civic Auditorium audience Tuesday night.

``We are in the midst of a seminal historic shift in this country,'' Limbaugh, 54, told audience members who paid $40 a ticket and welcomed him with a standing ovation. ``The Democrat party and the media have lost their monopoly. They don't rule the roost anymore.''

Other than one swear word and a slightly off-color story about Sen. Ted Kennedy's sex life, his fare was largely that of his radio show -- the country's most popular with some 20 million listeners.

He praised President Bush and demonized Democrats and liberals, to great cheers.

Hard to believe that the reporter was so fair. I would have thought that the Merc would have really slammed.

Common Tator: Rush sometimes tells the story about Senator Sam Erwin of Watergate fame. Erwin was shown a picture of Teddy Kennedy at sea on his boat in the act of having sex with young woman.

Erwin looked at the picture of Kennedy and the young lady having sex for a moment then remarked, "I see the Senator from Massachusetts has changed his position on offshore drilling."

Yes, that's the story he told.

He also had another punchline for Teddy diving into the water (following a blonde doing to same) as the first time he went diving into the water after some young blonde. < /chappaquiddick reference >

Well, I got home by midnight after dining out at Denny's (1st and Alma) with another Freeper. I posted the article 1am PDT. It was probably in breaking news at the time on their website. The article you posted is essentially the same, just fancied up a tad with more subtitles.
