Luiz Felipe de Alencastro is a Brazilian academic. He is professor of Brazilian History at University of Paris Sorbonne . He also worked at Andrew W. Mellon Senior Research and John Carter Brown Library. He is a colluminst of the celebrity Brazilian magazine called Veja. On October 30, 2002 in Washington, DC he participated as speaker on the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). The topic under discussion was: “BRAZIL: Political and Economic Challenges Facing the President-elect and the Implications for U.S. Policy in Latin America”.

http://www.cfr.org/pub5190/cfr/brazil_political_and_economic_challenges_facing_the_presidentelect_and_the_implications_for_us_policy_in_latin_america.php

During the discussion someone among the audience inquired Professor Alencastro about the South-American organization called Foro de São Paulo. Alencastro said he never heard about Foro de São Paulo and the Foro de São Paulo was a fantasy created by a very conservative gentleman from Rio de Janeiro. According to him Foro de São Paulo is a urban legend, conspiracy theory, and who wastes his time which such thing is crazy or idiot.

Well, if it is true that everyone who says something about Foro de São Paulo is desillusional, then we can say the Brazil is been ruled by mad men since the official webpage of the Brazilian government’s party PT cites and recognizes the existence of the “urban legend” Foro de São Paulo:

http://www.pt.org.br/site/secretarias_def/secretarias_int_box.asp?cod=234&cat=10&cod_sis=9

At the official webpage of the Brazilian Communist party (a ally) we can find 3 articles discussing in depth about the Foro de São Paulo:

http://www.vermelho.org.br/english/text/forum.asp

http://www.vermelho.org.br/english/text/forum2.asp

http://www.vermelho.org.br/english/text/forum3.asp

At Granma, the official newspaper of the Cuban Communist Party, we can find na detailed article about the Foro de São Paulo:

http://granmai.cubaweb.com/espanol/diciembre02/mar3/exponen.html

And that is not the only article we can find at the online Cuban newspaper. We can find more. There is for example the following article: ”Representantes de Foro de Sao Paulo contra ALCA” (Foro de São Paulo delegates against FTAA) http://www.granma.cu/noticia1.htm

In: http://www.granma.cubaweb.cu/miami5/solidaridad/org/0003.html we can find: “Participantes en 10° Encuentro del Foro de Sao Paulo piden liberación de cubanos presos en Miami” (X Foro de São Paulo meeting participants demands release of arrested Cubans in Miami)

At the Perseu Abramo website, foundation created by the government party PT, there is a copy of the speech of Brazilian President Lula at Foro de São Paulo during a meeting in Cuba:

http://www.fpa.org.br/sala_leitura/forosp_cuba.htm

If you look at the Perseu Abramo website you will find another interisting thing. Professor Alencastro, who denies the existence of Foro de São Paulo worked as collunist to a magazine published by Perseu Abramo foundation: http://www.efpa.com.br/Telas/produto.asp?Id_Produto=120

Alencastro worked in a place which recognizes the Foro de São Paulo existence and mantains documents available about it in its webpage. So who is desillusional?
