Foxnews: The Intifada May Be Over
Foxnews

Posted on 02/08/2005 3:11:51 AM PST by Dales

Foxnews is reporting that Sharon and Abbas are meeting, and that the announcement of a formal cease-fire is imminent. They said this is 'not the start of peace but the start of the process that will lead to peace'.

Apparently Abbas and Sharon will continue peace talks throughout the day after the announcement.

I'm not so optimistic when one of the parties to these talks is one of the masterminds behind the '72 Olympics murders.

Hamas says not bound by Palestinian ceasefire

GAZA CITY (AFP) - Palestinian Islamist militant movement Hamas said that it was not bound by the ceasefire announced by Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas at a Middle East peace summit in Egypt.

Abbas's declaration "expresses only the position of the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites). It does not express the position of the Palestinian movements," said Hamas spokesman Mushir al-Masri.

In Beirut, Hamas spokesman Osama Hamdaneh said the ceasefire pledge "does not commit the Palestinian resistance."

Hamas, which has been behind many of the deadliest anti-Israeli attacks during the four-year Palestinian uprising, and other armed groups have nevertheless agreed to a temporary "cooling down" period.

At the summit in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites) agreed to ceasefires aimed at ending the deadly violence and paving the way for a revival of the Middle East peace process.

But Masri said the Palestinians should have been consulted before any such announcement.

"(Hamas) is maintaining its position. There will not be a real truce with Israel without real reciprocity," he said.

"We will act on the truce depending on the commitment by the Zionist enemy to meet our conditions, starting with all Palestinian prisoners."

On Fox yesterday, Krauthammer said that instead of the Palestinians saying, as formerly, "Land for peace," they are now saying, "Peace for peace." I think he followed that up by saying that their condition for peace is for Israel to stop seeking to kill their bad guys and they will stop killing Israelis. Kraut also said that the wall Israel built was crucial in allowing both sides to come to this pass.

The peace process started by one of the masterminds behind the King David Hotel bombing has held for over a quarter century.

you are quoting uncle shimon, former vice president of the socialist internationale? http://nobelprize.org/peace/laureates/1994/peres-bio.html
and relying upon the new chairman of the PA who holds a PhD in Holocaust denial from Moscow U? are you serious? abu mazen ran his campaign as a friend and champion of the jew killing gangs. this is a farce. i am sadly disappointed at the direction the US is going with this policy and saddened that W. (and Condi too for that matter) are risking their well deserved place in history on this arab murderer.

Arafat id dead and 43 was re-elected. If Arafat had died and John Kerry was president, it would be SSDD in the ME.

Could you imagine for one minute if Kerry got elected? He would do absolutely nothing and take credit for instantly turning things around in the middle east with his so called "plaan". The MSM would be building him up as the biggest hero of the 21st Century. We would then be stuck with him for two terms. All you would here from him is how he rebuilt the bridges to our allies that were disenfranchised by GW's administration. Thank god and the American people for re-electing George W Bush. Wow!

Your source is also defending the nut cases that are using "Moveon.org" tactics against the Israeli education minister. I'd hardly consider it a reliable source.

I'll stick with the President and SecState, thank you very much.

to the Pals yes. The piddling amount that goes to Israel (compared to what we give to Africa, etc.) is well spent, IMO.

the announcement of a formal cease-fire is imminent.

Does this mean that homicide bombers have to wear a tie?

Kach protesters attacked by Minister Livnat's bodyguards

Funny how they don't mention that Kach is a banned organization in Israel.

this was a news report from a new source.
So was Dan Rather's "TANG memos" report. This source is about as credible.

I'll say my two cents of why peace won't work over there. Three decades of imams and terrorist lunatics preaching the message to the Arabs that all Israelis are on the same level as rats and must be pushed into the sea.

Jordan seems to be the only country with leadership AND citizens that have embraced Israel and America as a good thing. Jordan also had enough common sense to recognize that the Palestinians were a bunch of trouble and booted them out of their country in the early 70's.

I do not want to say all Arab Palestinians are bad, but their Grand Poobah Yassir Arafat did not help his people one iota with his BS and murder.

So is this where the

" 'peace, peace!', but there is no peace"

part starts?

"I think it is the region and not the religion"

What about Muslim violence in Albania, Cyprus, Algeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Russia, Georgia, Philippines, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Thailand, and on and on.

It's the religion and not the region.
