15 N. Koreans Nabbed Crossing U.S.-Mexico Border

Fifteen presumed North Korean defectors who had settled in South Korea were arrested for trying to sneak into the U.S.

The Los Angeles-based Association of People From Five Northern Provinces said on Sunday it learned that 15 North Koreans were arrested by U.S. Border Patrol as they tried to smuggle themselves into the U.S. from Tijuana, Mexico. But the association’s president Kim Ho-jeong added it remained to be confirmed whether the 15 really were defectors.

The 15, who are being held at an immigration detention center in San Diego, California, said they intended to seek political asylum in the U.S. after previously settling in South Korea. Kim Yong, the head of another defectors’ association in Los Angeles, said that under U.S. law such individuals were usually deported.

They were able to get out of North Korea but couldn't make it into the United States?

Re:
"Just coming into America to do the jobs no American wants to do."
Yeah, RIGHT!
A friend of mine, single parent, has worked on a nearby dairy farm milking cows for 7 or 8 years.
The boss man told her that she'd either have to take a pay cut or he could hire 2 you-know-whats for the same rate.
I told her to call it in.
I'm very sure this is happening a lot of other places too, not just here in MI.

It's impossible for any border to be completely sealed. Despite what the anti-immigrants say, our southern border to too tight for terrorists to risk jumping when they can easily enter legally with tourist visas or passports from countries not requiring visas.

Unless someone has been previously identified as a terrorist there is no reason for him to enter illegally, and every reason not to.

The anti-immigrants claim to be concerned about terrorists, but what they are really concerned about is only Mexican laborers.

As much access as the government provided Dr. Vollertsen, the worst atrocities were kept hidden in secretive prison camps. These he learned about more recently. After leaving North Korea, he spent time along its borders learning from defectors-torture victims who live like hunted animals on the border between North Korea and China. They described a nightmare world where guards electrocute prisoners for fun and throw women into sewage pools for stealing food. He heard stories of children who vomit when they accidentally dig up fresh mass graves and babies who are strangled moments after birth on concrete floors.

He was told repeatedly of an island in the northeastern part of North Korea, in an area near Chongjin so highly restricted it does not appear on official maps, where prisoners are used as laboratory test material for anthrax and other bacteria, food poisoning, or medical experiments-how long they can stand freezing, or how long they can live underwater-"the cruelest experiments you can imagine," Dr. Vollertsen says.

Mr. Bush's remarks and recent trip should revive a hardline approach to North Korea, even though experts long have known it is the most repressive nation in the world. Humanitarian relief experts say that more than 4 million people have died of starvation in North Korea since 1995-despite the country's receiving more food aid than any other nation in the world.

The former bodyguard, Lee Young Kuk, said he watched the punishment of a political prison camp inmate accused of stealing salt. He was tied to a vehicle and dragged for 2H miles at high speeds and "became de-skinned." His body was tied to a stake "as an example," said Mr. Lee. He told reporters, "I have watched so many deaths in North Korea I almost lost the concept of human dignity."

Dr. Vollertsen is convinced the United States "is the only place on earth" where officials will listen to what he knows about North Korea. He is bitter that "nobody cares" in his native Europe, despite vibrant images of its own Holocaust. "All the European politicians, they ask me, 'Do you have any evidence, do you have any torture victims in your backpacks?'"

Not sure of the date of this article, but I found it very interesting reading.

You would be amazed at the number and nationalities of the news teams that show up here in Cochise County. It can make for a hectic schedule and interfere with regular scouting and trail mapping.

All borders are pours right now, but the biggest problem is the southern borders;

In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total 1,200 to 1,500) are against illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens. No Border city along the Canadian border top that statistic!

Gangs are crossing the Mexican boarder in record numbers and it is so Clinton-ess by our elected officials not to not call these people for whom they really are, terrorists!

There is terrorism along the border states, officers are being shot at, citizens are being plagued with crime and vandalism. Just because nobody wants to call them for what they are, don't make it so! Given it is next to impossible to find in the media or government to even to label them illegal, its no wonder nobody wants to even associate the word terrorism with thi very real problem.

Well, a friend of mine who owns a dairy just gave all his employees a raise to make sure none of them quit because he doesn't think he could find any other American citizens willing to get up at 4:00 A.M. every morning, seven days a week to milk cows, and he refuses to hire illegals unless he has no other choice.

"Anything is possible in my America. "

If we had to do what it would take to seal America it wouldn't be your America. There isn't enough hatred and jealousy in the world to tolerate the police/prison state it would take to deal this country air/land/sea.

It would certainly appear that the U.S. Chamber of Commrce or the "VISITORS" and Convention Bureau are greatly excelling in their jobs, with all the knocking on the doors of our Borders.

I think they are either truly asylum-seekers or terrorists. I wonder how one can tell the difference.

Uhh, maybe asylum seekers who had defected and settled in South Korea would have approached the US Embassy in South Korea?

In my view, ANY illegal immigrant is a "terrorist" of some sort, if only economically.

If they find "jobs Americans don't want to do", will Prez Bush keep them?

I don't understand. You don't even want to try then?

Where would America be if we didn't do things in the past because it was "too hard"...?

Actually, we don't even need to build that wall. Just start busting employers. Invaders will self-deport... And the flow will slow.

Making the next 15 Koreans that cross very obvious...

Interesting tagline, considering the past couple of days here on FR. Just thinking out loud...

I've had this tagline for at least several months now, hoping it'll someday sink into the brains of more FReepers. :-)

Really? I disagree. I also disagree with your point about hatred and jealousy. It's out of love and respect for my country that I want the borders closed and Immigration Laws enforced. Also out of respect for the Immigrants coming to this country legally.

Yep, and until we citizens speak up and let our elected officials know how we feel, it will continue. Sad.
