My MIL used to prepare my FIL's lutefisk in the basement, because no one else could stand the smell. On the 17th of May (Syttende Mai/Independence Day), Dad would get his lutefisk topped w/a little paper Norwegian flag. The rest of us would have roast beef. Even the 2nd generation Norwegians can't honestly say they like the stuff.

Well at least we now know why the Vikings invaded Britain even though the whole world knows British food is awful. They were trying to get away from the lutefisk/lutfisk.
